Vou começar logo com uma promessa de meses atrás que estou devendo para um amigo especial e divulgar seu video:

There were signs of trouble prior to this event, unreported and deeply distressing where service users were suffering and help was not coming from the top. Scapegoating is a wonderful political tool which deflects the blame away from the responsible person and enables ranks to close. People cease to question versions of events, a judge and jury system is established.

The body politic of the organisation is such that norms of procedure apply only when the circumstances fit the agenda, one rule does not apply to all and a culture of dysfunction prevails. Organisational dynamics are such that dysfunction in the lower ranks is always a projection of the top tier management. Therefore, not only service users but staff are vulnerable to the whim's of a hierachy riddled with inconsistency.

Some of our most vulnerable members of society live among us in tailored communities aimed at providing not only their basic needs but their specialist needs. When this basic care is not met, when personalities come before principals, we cease to be effective or able to to apply our reasoning and skills to give the best balanced care possible.

What looks like a nice red shiny apple from the outside, once bitten, reveals that actually its rotten to the core on the inside.

Non c’è bisogno di un altro blog, direbbero forse a ragione alcune persone. Ma forse è anche vero che questo blog serve più a me: se poi altre persone ne trarranno vantaggio tanto meglio, perché è anche vero che si cresce solo nel dialogo aperto e sincero con chi ti sta “difronte” e nell’ascolto c’è la saggezza dell’esperienza.

Non si naviga fra le nuvole perché sono consapevole che è nella vita quotidiana che bisogna vivere, ma però è importante sapere che ci si può fermare od almeno rallentare, mettere in folle, liberare lo stress e ripartire.

Sarà capitato anche a voi nel turbine della vostra vita di assaporare piccoli momenti in cui sembra che il tempo si dilati, ma non nella noia e nell’apatia di un sogno consumato, ma nella freschezza di un contatto con una realtà nuova o nel risveglio del vostro essere di fronte a qualcosa che apparentemente conoscevate da tanto tempo. E’ un po’ come quando ci si sveglia la mattina e spalancando le persiane chiuse sei inondato da una luce intensa, stordito piacevolmente dal cielo azzurro e dall’aria frizzante. E’ una sensazione di ricarica immediata ed è difficile trattenere un sorriso di felicità.

Oggi il mondo sembra viaggiare ad una velocità troppo alta, tanto che molti sembrano restare indietro, altri vivono per rincorrerlo ed altri ancora si fermano ad interrogarsi e si perdono il viaggio. Io vorrei solo rallentarlo un pò!. Da solo è probabilmente un'utopia ma insieme si può fare. Sono convinto che ogni uomo fa la differenza, figuriamoci un insieme di uomini che credono in ciò che fanno. A volte si è convinti che il nostro piccolo bagaglio di idee e di emozioni scompaia di fronte al mare della moltitudine ma non è così. Ognuno di noi, quando parla, quando ascolta, quando sorride, quando piange, quando si confronta con un altro uomo, sta trasmettendo qualcosa e che piaccia o no, sta modificando in quell'istante la vita di chi in quel momento è con lui.

Questo vuol dire “che possiamo fare la differenza”. E' ora che ognuno faccia la differenza, consapevole di essere un seminatore di scintille pronte ad accendere grandi falò. C'è bisogno di molta luce per godere delle meraviglie della vita e per rischiarare il buio dei dolori.

Ogni volta che riusciremo a godere di un tramonto nel bel mezzo del traffico, a sorridere a quella scena sul marciapiede mentre il notiziario ti ubriaca di notizie devastanti, a sentire che possiamo fare la differenza parlando con una persona che è pronta ad ascoltarti, avremo contribuito a rallentare la folle corsa del mondo, facendo tirare il fiato anche a chi non smette mai di correre.

Every morning on Monday and Tuesdays, my group and I meet at 6:30 a.m. on our designated floor. About 6:45 a.m. we walk on over to the nurse station to receive report about our patient.Well, we walked up one day and our nurses are not in sight...they were giving report in their break room...where we could not go. Awesome! Good to know they are hiding from us. This comic strip cracked me up because that is exactly what I think they do! It is like we are invisible, it made me really mad at first, but now I just find the humor in it and do my own thing. I figured if they don't care we are there or care to help us out, then I will go ahead with my duties and do what I can. It isn't like I want them to hold my hand, I just want to see what this whole nursing career is about, and unfortunately, it is nothing like I expected.
Despite all the disappointment from this program, I still believe with all my heart I am where I should be. So for now, I will keep my head up, give bath's, make beds, get vital signs and do the procedures I am qualified to do.

Anyway, onto my question I posted on the title line of this blog....

I am not here to offend any nurses, I respect nursing a lot. BUT all the nurses I have encountered seem to just get in and get out of a patient's room as quick as possible. Where is the compassion? When did it slip away? Was it even there in the first place?
I see the nurses turn a patient like they are not even a person. I see them changing a dressing without explaining anything or sticking to protocol and it breaks my heart. I watched a nurse change a dressing on a older man that had a horrible pressure ulcer near his tailbone, but never once talked to him.
These patients deserve more respect than they get and it makes me so sad. It scares me because I never want to be like that...I know that with any job it can become mundane, but I pray that the Lord breaks through the mundane and allows lives to be touched and allows my heart to soften for each patient that I encounter. I never want to succumb to seeing patient's as a room number or their disease, I want to see them as people.
On the floor I am on, each patient I see, I wonder who they are, where they are from, what they do or used to do as a living, how many kids or grand kids they have. My patient this week is a retired OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner, her husband is so loving to her and gives her kisses every morning when he comes in, she has 6 children, she can't wait to contribute to society again when she gets out of the hospital, she loves eggs, she loves the curtains to be open....
I pray against complacency. I know I am new to this all and I know it could be hard not to become complacent when doing something for years, but I hope I give people compassion AND adequate care during their stay.

I am excited about nursing. I am excited to see how the Lord will grow me. I am excited to do things that I never thought I would be able to do.

I better get back to studying my friends, I have a big test on Monday.

**** I did a sterile dressing change on a patient on Wednesday! It was so fun :)

Well I guess it's all to do with the shaytans not been locked up any longer plus my nafs being harder to control. May Allah make it easy for me and you.

Los detenidos se hacían pasar por estudiantes para burlar las autoridades y llevaban la droga en mochilas, estos se desplazaban en dos motocicletas Suzuki AX100, sin placas. Se les ocupó varios celulares y se cree que los hombres viajaron hasta Miches para buscar la droga, según informó la policía.

Los tres hombres serán sometidos a la acción de la Justicia para que les sean conocidas medidas de coerción en el tribunal de El Seibo.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution operates around the coast of the island of Ireland. The RNLI is a registered charity which exists to save lives at sea.

It provides, on-call, the 24 hour lifeboat service necessary to cover search and rescue requirements to 50 miles out from the coastline of Ireland and the United Kingdom.

There are currently 44 lifeboats stationed at 39 different harbours in Ireland. All lifeboat men and women are volunteers.
