I watched the debates with 10 friends last night. We watched pre and post. It's was clear to all of us that Biden is the better candidate--he's more grounded, far more experienced, and frankly, if I'm going to drink a beer, he would be my personal choice to schmooze with. I'm not Joe 6 Pack--I'm a Mom, Gramma, Aunt, Sister, Daughter, former Soccer Mom .... and just about every other type of Mom we can put a label on.

I'm sick of the "folksy" movement. I've had it up to my eyeballs with Bush and company. Palin is no better. She's even scarier, because she's more like Dick Cheney, but with a skirt.

Sure, she looks great. But looking great isn't what this election, or any election, should be about. There's a knock out number in the play and movie Chorus Line---Tits and Ass ... a bought me a pair.... Sarah Palin is the Tits and Ass candidate.

But there's something else that concerns, even alarms me.

All have tauted Sarah Palin as the hockey Mom, the Mom of 5, the Mom of a special needs child, as one of us. She is not.

If she was this caring Mom, she wouldn't be doing what she's doing. She wouldn't be dragging a 5 month old around the country; parading him in bright lights and noisy crowds.

Cognitively, any baby needs sleep--lots of it. This kid is a special needs child. A child who needs the comfort of home, not campaigns; the comfort of someone who is a primary care-giver, not a campaigner; the quiet; not the ruckusnoise of crowds; and safety-- lots of it.

As one Mom to another .... shame on you--this baby has no business on any campaign trail. You are sabotaging your child.

Being a mother is a great feeling in life. And before the arrival of the new baby many things should be taken into considerations. You need proper furniture, clothes, baby products, infant toys and other things to set a baby’s room. Have you arranged everything you need to prepare for the baby's arrival? Do you have all of the baby stuff that you need?

A new mother needs a little help when it comes to preparing for babies to come into this world. The biggest concern is making sure that the baby's room is set. The baby market is booming these days with all designer baby clothes and baby products. Baby diaper cakes, baby strollers, baby prams, baby beddings, baby changing stations are quite popular among a lot of gift givers.

The most important thing that a baby and mother would require is a decent baby changing station that would make it easy for mothers to change diapers in a much safer way enjoying moments with the baby. Why is it the most important furniture to have in the house? Since a mother would require changing the baby diapers at least 10-15 times a day. It is much comfortable to get it done on a baby changing station that will support the baby posture and make it much easier for mothers to change the diapers safely and quickly. Baby Changing Stations are time saving too as you can stock creams, powders, oils and baby clothes all at one place and get the diapers changed comfortably.

The other important things include baby clothes, baby strollers, baby oils and creams and baby toys. Baby toys should be properly sterilized before giving it in baby hands as babies always tend to put everything inside their mouth. Keeping hygiene and safety into consideration there are many types of baby products available in the market that can be bought for you babies entertainment.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that obesity also leads to other serious health problems. And one of the worst being diabetes. Due to the growing obesity problem in America, Type 2 Diabetes has simply exploded. While this use to be an adult onset issue it has now spread to our children. Sadly, over one third of all children born today will develop Type 2 Diabetes in their lifetime.

Why is this happening? What is going on here? Unfortunately, the answer is quite simple, it's our eating and exercise habits. Think about how many times you eat fast food every week? For some it's every day. If you're like the average person, you eat fast food 2-3 times a week at a minimum. Fast food is literally killing us. It's loaded with fats, calories, sodium, and sky high amounts of carbohydrates. This is exactly what diabetes thrives on. It's like fertilizer. If you have doubts, take a look at the content labels on fast food, if you can find them. You will be shocked! Or go on diabetes groups.msn.com site and do a search.

Another problem that is creating more diabetics is the intake of soda. Everywhere you go, be it the gas station, store, fast food restaurant, etc., the sizes of sodas being sold are enormous. 10-20 years ago a large soda was considered to be 12-16oz. These days, that's a small drink at best. You're now seeing 48-64oz super big gulps, or hugos. The sugars and carbs that these sodas contain are off the charts, yet our children are drinking them up on a daily basis. The result? A dramatic increase in the number of children under 12 with diabetes.

Baby care is a top priority for parents and feeding our babies is a part of this. Before your infant

Baby care is a top priority for parents and feeding our babies is a part of this. Before your infant reaches the age of 1. There are five stages where parents need to adjust the quantity as well as the type of food that they give to their babies.

For example, from birth up to 4 months, the baby’s digestive system, particularly the intestines have not fully developed so the only thing that baby needs at this stage is breastmilk only however, if the mother is having some issues breastfeeding the little one then the other alternative is to use Formula which is recommended by the doctor.

When the baby reaches four months, you can give your baby some rice or grain cereal other than the milk. Do this until he or she turns 6 months old. In the event that the baby does not like the cereal, try to reintroduce this food after a month and then see what happens.

From six to eight months, your baby is ready to take in more solids foods. Aside from breastfeeding or formula milk, give your little one some mashed potatoes, soft cheese, yogurt, ripe banana and apple or pear juice in small quantities. When introducing food to your baby do this slowly, one at a time with increments of three days just to be certain that your little one will not have any allergic reactions to the foods that you are giving him or her.

By ten to twelve months, your infant probably has more teeth and can swallow food faster and easier. You can now give him or her all the foods mentioned above but this time you can slightly increase the quantity or the amount of the foods. Just remember when feeding your baby new foods, do this slowly and at least three to four days in between.

One Baby Bash Coming Up!!!!

Birthdays are one of the most important events in our lives. This day signifies our arrival in the world and the celebration of it is a commemmoration of that first time we've ever came into the world. Most especially for our precious baby.

Here are some tips to get that baby bash on the roll and be the talk of the baby land for a week or so. One, preparation of the baby bash is extremely important! Create a theme that you would like to follow. Would you like your baby bash to be a sci-fi adventure? Or would you want your baby bash to be a costume party? Or rent even an amusement park complete with the merry-go-round and a clown or two. Whatever you decide, the baby bash needs to be well-thought of to keep it organized as well as the safety of the guests can be assured.

The baby bash depends on the age of the baby. For one year olds, clowns would do so that he or she can facilitate the party since the most important guests would be the little children. Magic shows and puppetry would be sufficient to keep the children interested and satisfied. While for two years old and older, since by this time, they are already mobile and have learned to walk, a costume party or an amusement park theme would be the solution to keep the kids happy. Balloons to keep them preoccupied, cotton candy to keep them busy and lots and lots of kiddie food.

Second, sending out the invites. It seems that babies are conversational pieces. Thus, your network of friends increase since you meet other moms and dads who have babies near your baby's age group. They can become your buddies, swapping babysitting time when you need to unwind and relax. Their kids are your guests in the baby bash and not the parents. Thus, the baby bash must be geared towards the kid's enjoyment.

Third, preparation of the food. Since this is a kiddie party, finger foods should comprise most of your menu. Kids easily tire of food and so small portions must be served at them. If possible, separate the food of the parents with the kids, if the parents were invited.

Sometimes, a baby bash becomes an adult get-together when there are no other babies that could be invited.

Whatever you have decided what the baby bash must be like, keep in mind that the baby's comfort is more important. Sometimes, there are babies who are afraid of clowns. You must have an alternative activity in mind in case this happens.

Fourth, post baby bash activities. After all the food, the favors and trimmings gone, it is time to clean up. The most convenient way to finish all the food left is to ask mothers to take home a portion of the food served. This not only minimizes food spoilage, it would also keep the kids occupied during the drive home, in case they start asking for food. Because there are kids who play all throughout the party and do not pay attention to the food. But once they have settled down, usually during the ride home, then they start to feel hunger pangs. Thus, you would be helping parents keep the kids behaved during the ride home.

Then baby bash need not be a strenuous and nerve-racking activity that moms would rather not plan for. It could also be enjoyable for the parents as well.

Baby R Us: One Stop Baby Shop

If Toys ‘R Us is a company that offers various toys for kids, what does Baby R Us offer? No way! It’s not babies! Baby R Us offers baby products.

In 1996, Westbury, New York, Baby R Us opened its first store. It has been immediately followed with opening six more branches on different locations at the end of the year.
Baby R Us also constantly maintains a “Top Seller List” that usually include educational baby equipment, baby books, a pregnant mom’s book, diaper accessories, comfy baby bouncer, play gyms, baby call nursery monitors, a changing pad, monitors with dual receivers, an infant car seat base, baby wraps, toddler rockers, baby swings, nursery care kits, feeding bottle set, etc.

Baby R Us online store also allows browsers to check on different brands of baby products that suit their preferences. There are also these “Parents Favorite” items and Babies R Us’ basic gift ideas that are never surmounted by novel items. Gift certificates are also available as treats to the parents-to-be.

My daughter, Princess Ysabel's birthday is just a month away. She was born on the 19th of October, 2007. As her mother, I feel excited about the coming celebration. Regarding the guests, I figure that I should be inviting some close friends and mostly family. It's not a big party but it's really special because I will be celebrating the first year of my daughter's young life.

When she came into this world, she did not cry. She was very still and quiet. I thought something was wrong with my baby but I knew she was born alive because, I heard her pass some gas. You can laugh about this. My husband and I did but it's true. Princess Ysabel is nothing like her older brother, Ramoncito. I said this because the very still and quiet baby has grown to become so active. Baby care for my daughter can be challenging, really but People adore her. With that cute dimple on the right cheek, always showing whenever she smiles. Let me tell you my daughter is a happy baby, she often smiles at everyone. That's what most people love about her.

As I am writing this, I am thinking about things that I should ready for her coming birthday. It can be a little hectic but I don't need to worry about that I have a wonderful husband who is there to help me.

Anyway, let's see what will happen when the big day comes but one thing is certain, it's going to be lots of fun.

When I first brought my baby home, we had a bit of a hard time getting used to using the baby monitor in his nursery. We wanted to make sure that we were using the baby monitor right, because if we didn’t it would completely defeat the purpose of the exercise.

When we took it out of its box, we read the instructions carefully and followed them to a T. Later we realized that that didn’t really work and we went with common sense instead.

Position, position, position

Positioning the baby monitor in the nursery is essential, not too far away from baby and not too near that it becomes bothersome. Making sure that the cord was well hidden so we wouldn’t trip on it in the dark when we came in to check on our son helped too. And we always made sure to charge the batteries in the receivers!

Test, test, test

Other than that, I also recommend testing it out a few times first before using it on the baby, just to ensure that it’s working the way it’s supposed to. Besides that, being extra careful the first few days you use it helps you get used to the idea of hands free parenting!

High, low, medium…Sound?

The most important thing to ensure is that you are comfortable with the sound level on the receivers. Setting the volume too high will make for a very uncomfortable awakening should baby scream in the night. Setting the volume too low might not let you hear him at all. A happy medium is what you’re aiming for!

I hope these tips help you and be sure to check out my reviews on popular baby monitors in the links! :)

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or commonly known as SIDS is a nightmare for parents. This is where an infant no more than 1 year dies for reasons that remain unexplained even after a thorough investigation. SIDS has nothing to do with this running in the family nor is it contagious. While we are resigned to the fact that a healthy baby, usually less than 6 months old who suddenly dies while he or she is sleeping without any apparent cause can be a source of great tragedy for parents as well as care takers.

It is simply hard to think that a baby can be found lifeless when prior to that he or she was doing some pretty normal things like feeding, playing and smiling. Medical research shows that the risk of SIDS increases during two to six months then this is followed by a decline. Usually, the victims of SIDS are babies less than 6 months old.

Unfortunately, SIDS remains unpredictable. It can happen without any symptoms of distress or illness and worst it cannot be prevented but this is never caused by bad parenting. Babies are wonderful gifts. There is no reason that parents will neglect infant care but sometimes tragedy strikes for reasons beyond the parents’ understanding. If you are someone who has suffered from SIDS or if you know someone who has, remember you are not alone and always keep in mind that SIDS is not your fault nor is it due to a lack of tender baby care on the parent’s side.

The Way with Baby Names
Choosing a baby name for your child is almost like choosing his identity. Ev

The Way with Baby Names

Choosing a baby name for your child is almost like choosing his identity. Ever heard about the association of a person’s name with his personality? That’s how our names really work. A name molds a person’s identity like a cookie-cutter. So, better get that best baby name for your son or daughter. Read on for some tips on how to provide that best baby name for your little angel.

1. Stop it already with the dictates of your family’s tradition. Choosing the right baby name does not have to always rely on what your elderly relatives deem to be the best baby name. It is your baby’s name, not theirs. So, better act like it. Once your baby is born he will be stuck with that baby name for life. That means it’s not wise to just settle for any baby name that will suit your grandma’s or auntie’s taste.

2. Take a look of a picture of his future. You don’t want your baby to be always called with a monicker that will forever ridicule him or will allow his playmates to make a big laughingstock out of him, right? Research about the meaning of the baby name you are eyeing to give to your baby. Don’t consider Beelzebub as a prospective baby name just because you heard it from a TV show and you find it cute. Don’t use Rodelfa just because a certain Mexican TV show’s hunky lead actor is called Rodolfo. Just plainly saying yes to your gutfeel, thinking of the people that pops into your head upon hearing somebody spout a certain name, trying to follow a fad by naming your baby a certain celebrity’s (sometimes notorious) or NOT THINKING AT ALL in giving your precious one his or her baby name are huge no-nos!

3. Consider reading the initials of the baby name you are planning to give your baby. Make sure they don’t stand for anything funny, disturbing or something utterly stupid. Christine Sue Irving? What will happen on the next episode? Alvin Stephen Stuart? He’ll surely remember not to get near any hole. Fran Ursula Catherine Klein? Uh-oh! See? Can you imagine the sickening situation you may put your child into when he or she grows up?

4. Go check your family tree once and for all. Some can’t still get away from some traditions regarding baby name decisions, especially when they have a special bond with a certain family member that they want that person’s name to be a part of their baby’s name. If your planning to still follow the tradition of putting a part of your elder relatives’ names on your baby’s name, you have to know whether anybody else in your family use that name too. You don’t want to confuse people when they’re calling a name that’s owned by two. Ask around.

5. Don’t go for the overkill. Being too creative on thinking of a baby name can backfire, I’m telling you. Examples are too unique spellings. It will be hard for the kid to keep on spelling his or her name to people who only know the common spelling of such name.

6. Decide with your partner in coming up with the best baby name for your sweet baby. It wouldn’t be nice to be always blamed when people ask who chose that awful baby name, right? Okay, kidding aside. Sharing on this kind of decision-making is a good way of furthering your bond as a couple, not to mention the possibility of coming up with a better baby name. Remember that the “two heads are better than one” thought also applies to dealing with the troubles of finding the most suitable baby name for your baby.

Sound, appeasing relatives and friends and avoiding embarrassing initials and discovery of disgusting meanings are some of the major concerns that should be considered in your quest for the perfect baby name. You might find them a bit taxing. But in the long run, you’ll see that doing your homework will make your baby thank you when the right time comes. Happy baby naming!

Baby Monitors- What to Look for?

Hi, I’m Judy and my husband and I just welcomed a bundle of joy into our lives. Our little baby boy is only a few months old, and throughout his rather short lifespan, we’ve been looking for the perfect baby monitor to help us monitor him when we can’t be there, looking into his crib.

Throughout this time, I’ve come to know what I should be looking for when purchasing a baby monitor. How about I share all I know with you now? :)

Baby Monitor Reviews - First Things First

One of the first questions you should ask yourself when considering purchasing a baby monitor is what kind to purchase. There are a few types out there.

Sound monitors only monitor sound. If your baby monitor need only help you as a tool for knowing when your child is crying or not, then this kind should suffice. Really good sound monitors are very sensitive, and you can even hear your precious one breathing at night!

Motion sensing monitors also monitor motion, and some monitor sound as well. This kind of baby monitor is very desirable if you have a premature baby or special health concerns. By placing the motion-sensing pad under the baby, any motion will be picked up and if movement stops, you’ll be immediately alerted. This kind also gives peace of mind to new parents who are really worried about Sudden Infant Death syndrome (SIDS) as these motion sensors are so sensitive they can detect the breathing of an infant no problem!

Video baby monitors are the latest kind. However, the technology being developed isn’t very good yet in my opinion, plus they are expensive and make you look like an overly paranoid parent, so these are best left on the shelf.

OK, I know my type. Now what?

Once you know what type of baby monitor you want, you can start shopping around! There are some things you should be looking for in your baby monitor that will help using it an enjoyable experience both for you and your baby:)

Price range is an important factor, especially for new parents who might already be overwhelmed with decisions to buy so many other things, diapers, clothes, car seats, baby food and a lot more. There are budget baby monitors and there are expensive, premium ones. Depending on what you need, you should go to the store and ask the sales people if you can try the baby monitors out to find one exactly suited to your needs.

I think trying baby monitors is a must because you don’t know what you can put up with. Maybe you’re ok with a little static; maybe you want to throw your receiver against the wall the minute it begins to make scratchy background noise. Maybe you don’t like how the monitor itself looks like, or you don’t fancy the brand. Maybe the little light on the display bothers you in the middle of the night.

You never know what your deciding factor will be until you go to the store and try a few. You can also ask other parents to see what they’ve been using and why to help you make a more informed decision. Besides that, you should totally check out the reviews I’ve written on some baby monitors that I think deserve the praise, because they are really wonderful to use!

The baby monitor I’m currently using in my home, which I picked as the best simply because it’s quite affordable and offers a good balance of functionality and quality to price.

Philips SCD 589 DECT Digital - Baby Monitor with the Least Interference
I picked this one as the baby monitor with the least interference because it uses DECT technology and has 60 channels to choose from, which totally prevents interference, albeit at an expensive price tag. (It’s also really cute, to boot!)

Graco Ultra Clear II - Best Budget Analog Baby Monitor
My very first baby monitor. Cheap and you get what you pay for at the price, a basic baby monitor which monitors sound in your baby’s nursery. Also quite practical to travel with, I think.

Angelcare Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor - Best Motion Sensing Baby Monitor
I chose this baby monitor as the best motion sensing baby monitor because of my friend’s rave review of her own. Seeing it used in her own home and looking at the calm assured expression on her face convinced me that the motion sensing technology in this baby monitor will give many a first time parent the assurance they need to leave their child in the nursery when they need to.

Baby Monitor Reviews - Features to look out for

A few tips when thinking of what features you’ll need the most: A really handy feature to look for in baby monitors is a little light on the receiver which will signal to you when your baby is crying. This is really useful, because if you have visitors around but still want to keep tabs on your baby without subjecting your guests to your precocious infant’s yelling, then simply mute the receiver and watch out for a blinking light!

Also look for a baby monitor with several channels to choose from just in case of interference. In today’s modern houses, many devices in the home operate using radio waves, so the chance of interference is quite high unless you purchase a DECT baby monitor, which guarantees no interference! After all, you wouldn’t want to respond to a cry only to find out that it was your neighbor’s baby in the end. Or worse, overhear their private conversations if you’re both using the same channel or the same baby monitor.

If you think one receiver is not enough, then by all means get two. One for you and one for your partner so that either one can respond to a cry in a moment’s notice. But do remember to check what kind of battery the receiver is using, as well as the battery life of it to make sure it won’t suddenly run out of juice when you’re in the basement doing laundry.

Getting a baby monitor with a night light feature might also prove useful. Other than using it to comfort older children when the time comes for them to move to bigger beds, a night-light will help you when you come to check on your baby in the night, by showing the way. Personally, I find any and all indicators to be really good when using a baby monitor, because I need all the alerting I can get. If you get caught up in something, the best monitors have light and sound to alert you so that you’ll drop your task and run to your baby.

Baby Monitor Reviews - The final word

I’ve written down all I can think about to help you make a decision on purchasing your own baby monitor. I think it all boils down to knowing exactly why you want to buy a baby monitor, and balancing that want with the notion that using one might seem overtly paranoid. In actual fact, I think using a baby monitor helps strengthen the bond between parent and infant, and of course, if a very good safety precaution as well.

Do keep my tips in mind, and if you need to know more, you can read the other articles that I’ve written about baby monitors which can be found on this website. Furthermore, I’ve also reviewed some baby monitors myself. You can find these baby monitor reviews here too. I hope you find what you need:)

Baby Crying 101

Communication - that's what a baby's crying is for. This sweet thing that suddenly turn into a fit of tears is just craving for your sweeter attention. All cultures in the world nod to this pattern all infants are accustomed to.

A baby cries the most during his or her first three months. Though the amount of crying steadily increase, the crying time period may vary from an hour to most of the day and this could still be considered within normal range. Like, whoah, right? Babies are also known as howling tear factories.

Some thought that a baby cries more during the afternoon accounting it to the anxiousness of the mother or the stressed mood of the father after going home from work. But the most accepted assumption now is that babies have this automatic screening ability they use to shut off all the noise that may stimulate some response from them so they could get enough rest. But in the long run, this filter weakens and totally disappears during the approximate age of six weeks. This, then, make a baby very sensitive to the external factors such as noise, movements, etc. And these generally elicit a reaction from a baby and how best could he or she respond but only through crying.

There are many reasons why a baby succumbs to crying. Deciphering these reasons is the major feat a parent must surmount. Here are some of the things your sweetsome baby is making you understand through crying.

Hunger. Yes, your attention-hungry baby is craving to let you know that his tummy is grumbling. This is the most common reason for a baby to cry, especially, during his early months. The pattern of the hunger howl could be characterized as being persistent, demanding and almost rhythmical. But that rhythm is not at any rate close to becoming musical, of course.

Boredom. What can I say? Aren't these babies just plain spoiled? Crying because of boredom, errr, I'd find that a bit more twisted or weird if it's with an adult that is. But babies are really built like this. Crying is their way of telling you, "Hey get me a life here!" Aside from attention and food, consequently, babies need a lot of stimulation. And when they don't get this, there you get your waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!! The trick is to pick the baby up and play with him. This move may be frowned upon by some because of its amounting to spoiling the baby. But it is important to know that stimulation is also one of the major necessities of an infant and it won't hurt to provide him with some while in his growing age. This boredom cry is said to be also rhythmical and full of sobs and moans.

Discomfort. Pain is another precursor of the baby's crying. Who won't cry when in pain, right? Babies are not Major Paynes to endure the most excruciating discomfort they could undergo. They are little, vulnerable beings that need to be attended to when injured or when in an inconvenient situation. This cry could be more persistent, louder and more demanding. Shrieking and screaming, those are words that better describe the crying pattern roused by pain.

Another cause may be disturbance; surely, howling will proceed just when they're about to sleep or are already fast asleep and suddenly gets surprised by some noise, or movement. An illness that causes discomfort to a baby may also be the reason for a baby's bursting into fit of tears.
