Este caso es uno de los mas recientes, pero como estos hay cientos de casos mas, por negligencia medica y el deseo de las personas por estar perfectos, sin importar los riesgos que esto conlleva.

American celebrities have long used their unproven influence to encourage their fellow citizens to vote and they've never gone as all out as this year, what with their Obama songs and all. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Americans didn't actually get to vote for their presidents? So what is it you do vote for?

The above video, titled 5 Friends for some dumb reason, features a boatload of celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Benicio Del Toro, Sarah Silverman, Dustin Hoffman, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Linney, Jonah Hill, Natalie Portman, Forest Whitaker, Djimon Hounsou, Michelle Trachtenberg, Demi Moore, Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Eva Longoria, Courteney Cox Arquette, will.i.am, Jamie Foxx, Amy Adams, Kate Bosworth, Kevin Bacon and several others.

The one below however, entitled The Muzzler, is much more low-key and features only Jessica Alba (ironically in one of her better performances) and Hayden Panettiere.

And if that wasn't enough, Rosario Dawson wrote and starred in the four-part internet musical La Pasion De La Decision to encourage American latinos to vote, directed by her co-star Wilmer Valderrama. You can see all four videos after the jump. Which would you say is more earnest/more convincing?

More Fun Stuff

A non-partisan PSA from, as I understand, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, will.i.am, and Forrest Whitaker. The video features a large number of celebrities as you can see in the tags. It encourages people to get out and vote.

Whether you live in the Australia, the UK, the US, Canada, whatever developed nation, you've likely had this idea drummed into you from a young age by your peers. Hell, most of my friends are university educated and a good number of them still don't see any connection between their lives and politics.

Hey, who has time for politics anyway? When there's more important things to consume our time, like which under-age celebrity has posted nude pictures of themself up on MySpace, or which actresses look terrible without their make-up, or what the best restaurants are at the moment in your city. Important stuff.

It's sad that when you are granted a privilege without having had to work for it, people readily toss it aside as worthless. This is commonly the perception of voting in the aforementioned nations. In Australia, where I live, voting is compulsory but caring about the process is a highly unpopular optional extra. Even more sad than this is that in the US, a presidential candidate not only has to convince you that they're the best guy for the job - but they also have to motivate you to make the effort to vote at all.

Thankfully there is at least one celebrity cause, literally a cause célèbre, that is not a self-indulgent waste of time. The "5FriendsVote" campaign that is being broadcast on YouTube is truly inspiring. I applaud each and every celebrity in it for their commitment to this worthwhile cause of eradicating political apathy from pop culture. And most importantly for trying to make caring about politics and the civil responsibility of voting "cool" for young people.

It is no secret that most Hollywood and music stars are liberals and have become a reliable source of campaign cash for Democratic candidates. So far according to the Center for Responsive Politics the music and entertainment industry has given over $ 5.6 million to the Obama presidential effort and donated $ 3.4 million to the Hillary Clinton campaign. How did John McCain fare you ask? His campaign has received $ 885,000, total.

Not included are many rap and hip-hop stars like 50 Cent, Chamillionare, Scarface, etc., because around 95% of their community supports Obama’s candidacy. To list them all would take forever. They support Obama by using clothes with Obama’s image on them on stage, by putting up Obama or Obama/Biden banners at their concerts, etc. Almost all speak favorably of the candidate and hope the more outspoken members of their community tone down their support for fear of alienating voters that do not understand what their music is about. Some artists have said they support and will vote for Obama because he is one of them. Others say he is the most qualified for the job with race having nothing to do with their decision. To say that they are excited about this election is an understatement!

In a new public service announcement that hit YouTube and other online outlets Wednesday, DiCaprio says: "Please -- just don't vote." Others echo his plea: "Don't vote."

But the stars soon twist the message: Voting is a civic duty and the only way to effect change.

"I mean, seriously, ... after this whole video -- if you're not gonna vote, I don't even know what to say. ... You know you have to vote," says DiCaprio, who produced the PSA.

Lately I've been disagreeing more and more with the self appointed "Looking Out For" me guy. By the way, if he's looking out for me, why doesn't he at least say something before I trip and break a foot? It's bad enough he doesn't give me cash, he looks on while a bunch of rotten stuff keeps happening. But I digress.

Recently he called Al Franken a "Pinhead" for stating that, while he thinks that it's "probably not a good idea" to have God references in the pledge, on money and things like that, he doesn't care enough to argue with anyone about it. OK. He's not going to tell the people who WANT it there that they should remove it, he's just choosing his battles a little more carefully.

Isn't that what we want? People who believe what they want to believe without trampling on my right to believe what I want to believe? I would support the rights of those nuts who want mangers taken out of town squares and the 10 Commandments taken out of government buildings if they debated fairly. I might even agree with them if they used other tactics, who knows?

So, Franken admits to his feelings but allows other people to have their own way where it doesn't really affect him. If more people thought like that, this entire country would be a much nicer place to live. While there are many days on which I might agree with Billy Boy that Franken is a pinhead, this is not one of those days.

The way I see it, Franken is guilty of nothing more than honesty. I doubt that he brought the subject up. But when asked, he honestly told us that it wasn't something that he would lose any sleep over. He didn't call O'Reilly a rodomont. He didn't even say anything negative about those who would like to have those God references around for the sake of security. He simply said that he thought that it "probably" wasn't a good idea. Maybe he's right, who knows?

The only thing that I'm sure of is that Franken is behaving more like a patriot than the rodomont in this instance.

And, as much as I would love to say something catty about Demi Moore, I don't think she was being very pinheadish when she mentioned that she felt as though we've been through 8 years of "arrogant leadership" and that the government has acted like they "know better" than we do. I felt that way all through the Clinton years, Viet Nam and The Great Society. Does that make me a pinhead as well?

Even Moore's boy toy had a point when he acted more like Kelso on That 70's Show than a responsible adult when he asked why we were paying for a war when "they have money and we don't". He acted like an idiot when he said it, but to be honest, there ARE a lot of idiots out there and idiots need representation as much as anyone else. Kutcher's question was a legitimate one, albeit idiotically asked. Kutcher was, at worst, proof that a pinhead can also be a patriot.

So, we have one guy who thinks one way but acquiesces to those who think otherwise. Then, a woman who questions authority and arrogance in government. And next, just for laughs, we have a nit wit asking why we are paying for a war that we don't seem to be benefiting from. To top it all off, we have a man who calls these people pinheads for their words. I won't call the man a pinhead, but listen here you rodomont, you aren't being very patriotic today!
