Despite having a few technical issues with the connection to the Ulearn08 network, I did manage to stream my breakout live via ICTtv, although it was after 5:00pm by the time the techs had sorted out the problem. One of the great things about Mogulus is that you can also record these live feeds for later viewing. I have just moved my recording of the presentation into the 'video on demand' part of the ICTtv player, another great feature of Mogulus. For those of you who did not make it to my session, you can see what you missed by tuning into:

http://www.mogulus.com/icttv

(When the player loads select the 'Video on Demand' button then choose Breakout 5b)

In addition the slide show that accompanied the session is below.

It was with trepidation that I embarked on my breakout 1 presentation at Ulearn08 today. I was doing my Mogulus presentation and I knew that the people attending would love it, my fear was the Internet. The room was set up and ready to go and the techs were great, thanks guys and girls for all of your efforts. So into the session I launched. I feared that the bandwidth hit that Mogulus would create would conspire against me and bring the lesson to a grinding halt! The net was slow, sure but it held up and the session was a great success. 32 happy punters left the room. I now wait to see their TV stations appear.

Wouldn't it be nice to own your own TV station? Play marathons of "Back-to-the-Future"? Re-runs of "Fraggle Rock"? Maybe some old-school MTV?

That's your choice at Mogulus.com

Should you want to produce a station, all you need is a computer, a web cam and a high-speed connection. Already more than 100,000 users have launched.

As a viewer, you can browse a variety of stations in over 30 languages---including in (thank God) Gujarati---within 26 categories.

Think of it like watching your neighbors TV over his shoulder through the window---only you have a lot of neighbors.

There's thousands of stations to choose from: over 5,000 stations in Politics, 13,000 in Music, and 7,000 in Sports and Hobbies.

You can also search under "Most Popular" and "Featured".

Unfortunately, 2 of the 3 most popular stations were in Spanish and the other one was airing a high school football game in St. Louis which pretty much sums up the experience. More often than not, user stations are obscure niche-market American TV or else foreign language shows.

It's a "beta" version though. So, stay tuned.

I have been beavering away for the last couple of days on my presentations for Ulearn. I have created a set of resources for the attendees of my breakout 1 session. However, despite re-assurances to the contrary from the conference organisers I am very nervous about the ability of those attending to be able to access Mogulus en masse, via the conference wireless network. I have no doubts that the network will be working, it is just that I know that Mogulus uses a lot of bandwidth; indeed I dubbed it the ultimate bandwidth killer when I first discovered it last year. Therefore, to have 31 computers all accessing the same site from the same wireless networkat the same time may be asking for trouble, especially as we will also be accessing You Tube at the same time...!

To combat the potential for meltdown I have made a series of pdf instruction sheets and a Ulearn TV station for the conference. I have combined all of these resources into a wiki. I will also be using Mogulus in my second session, however this time it will be to broadcast live my presentation via my other TV station, in order that Helen in the UK can see the tohatoha presentation. I will also be using Mogulus to record this session for later broadcast.

If you want to check out the resources ahead of time, or will not be attending my session, please use the links below:

I have designed my poster for the Microsoft Innovative Teacher Award, I have even blocked out my short 6 minute presentation for that too, but still my Mogulus workshop is not being created, I have less than two weeks to go and I am not in the least bit stressed about this state of affairs. Why should this be so? Am I so confident, blase about the whole thing? The answer is no. I think that in reality I am simply tired and by the time I have done a day on the Supertanker and got home I am simply too drained to be any more creative. As I said in a much earlier post this year, this year would be big year for me and I think that it has been bigger and more stressful that I could have imagined. My three hats have taken their toll and I am tired.

As the end of term looms, I am hoping that I will get a couple of days rest and then on Monday I will set to with a will and in a flurry of creativity produce my Mogulus presentation. For the thirty of you who have so far enrolled for this workshop, I certainly hope that this is the case. What ever is the outcome, see you all there! I could always blag it, Internet connection willing!

Each week we are given different tools to look at and explore. Some of these websites I have heard

Each week we are given different tools to look at and explore. Some of these websites I have heard of and use, like Skype, and other I have not. It is amazing to think how many different tool are out on the web that I am not aware of. Out of the tools that I have been exposed to so far, two jumped out at me because of the potential they could have in the classrooms.

Mogulus was the first tool. Mogulus “gives you everything you need to launch your own LIVE 24/7 television experience.” I think there is a lot of potential here for teachers to use this with students. I can see classes using Mogulus as a way to study current events that are happening all around the world. The potential for real world connections and engagement of students could be very high if used correctly in a classroom.

The second tool that caught my attention was ClassSpot. One of my dreams as a teacher is to have a laptop in my room for every student. I would love to become a paperless classroom. ClassSpot would be a great tool for a teacher in this situation. According to their website:

“ClassSpot-equipped rooms enable any student to instantly share their work or digital content they find online. They can send files or websites over the network to any large display system in the classroom. Faculty or student can easily interact with the material on the display screen by simply moving their mouse on to a screen to take control.”

Allowing students to have control over the material that is presented in this format could be very powerful. The down side to ClassSpot is that there is a cost involved to aquier this tool.

So my postings for tonight just got hijacked by an incredible movement happening over at RagamuffinSoul and LifeChurch.TV. I just finished joining 100+ other bloggers and such for a live stream/chat with Los and the guys of LifeChurch.TV. Here's what's going down in a nutshell: what if an online community joined together and tried to make a difference using the various social networks at our fingertips?

For the next 7 days there will be 5 various ways to get involved and share the love of Jesus to your friends, followers, and online community! I get asked all the time: "Why do you blog?" and there are a dozen reasons WHY but probably none more purposeful or satisfying than something like this! This is something creative and new and I encourage you to get involved!

Question: What am I really being asked to do?!?!

Answer: SHARE.

Share your space! Embed the Mogulus player, create a banner, twitter, anything!

Share His message! Let's use these platforms for something bigger than ourselves.

Share your story! If you've got a webcam of some sort it'll be even better but we want to share our stories.

Share your life! Let's get out there on other people's time and get uncomfortable with those around us and really get involved in our communities!

You first need to get connected because it started tonight! Click here to sign up for more communication regarding the next 7 days.

you guys are Great! of course I am being completely sarcastic. I let you know in advance that I'm going to be doing a show... first time in a long time (more than a month to be exact) and no one even bothers showing up. That is why I stopped doing the show in the first place, I don't feel like anybody cares enough to even bother coming to the show. When I am doing the show no one even pays attention, well guess what... I don't care. Don't expect a show from me in the near future.

The big question surrounding live video streaming services so far has been how they plan to make mon

The big question surrounding live video streaming services so far has been how they plan to make money. Today, in the hopes of finding an answer, Justin.tv is introducing a home shopping channel.

The livecasting company is partnering with Amazon-backed e-commerce company The Talk Market to offer "one-time-only deals and incredibly creative inventions," (not that they're overselling it). The 1-hour broadcasts will be filmed in New York and hosted by Christine Gambito (aka YouTube's "HappySlip"), and the two companies will share in the revenue.

Watch live video from Talk Market on Justin.tv

Shows will run throughout the week of Sept. 15-19, airing at 1:30 p.m. EST, and will feature chats with live guests and the ability to click and purchase featured items. The initial batch of sellers cover a wide range of markets including Japanese pop toys, music, green products and jewelry.

Talk Market CEO Matt Singer said this first run of shows is just the start, that the two companies are mapping out other partnership possibilities, such as Justin.tv powering video for The Talk Market.

But don't expect a million little mini-QVCs starring everyday livecasters to pop up quite yet. According to Silicon Alley Insider, users launching their home shopping channel is a "possibility," but Justin.tv is waiting to see how this e-commerce foray works out.

Companies in the livecasting space are all searching for that golden business model, or at least a business model. Mogulus, which just got $10 million from Gannett, is rolling out a "pro" service; Ustream, which raised $11 million, has been partnering with big organizations like the Republican party; and Stickam launched a pay-per-view service this past summer.

As part of our effort to get information about the Shalom Hartman Institute out on as many channels

As part of our effort to get information about the Shalom Hartman Institute out on as many channels and platforms as possible - so we can offer our innovative and pluralistic Jewish learning to people who might not otherwise hear of us - we have created a full-time video channel of Institute lectures and presentations on Mogulus.com.

Mogulus is a leading channel in the burgeoning world of streaming video. It's more than YouTube (where we also have a channel); it's a collection of channels created by individuals and organizations around the world. There will be a lot of competition for viewership overall on Mogulus, but there is little Jewish content on that network, and we are pleased to be able to fill that void.

One thing we've noticed as we've surfed the world of Internet video is that there is little mainstream Jewish content. By that I mean that most of the video and audio found online is from groups seeking to reach the mainstream from one edge of the spectrum or the other.

I've been told, for example, that the highest-rated iTunes podcasts in the "Jewish" category are from "Messianic Jewish" congregations and individuals. Similarly, groups such as Chabad and Aish have been on the Web in a variety of formates for many years. For all of the good Chabad and Aish do, they cannot be considered mainstream in their Jewish thinking.

So, we hope our videos - and audio programming to come - will fill the online void in this area. So, "tune in" to us on Mogulus. We hope it will turn you on, in the hope that you won't drop out from the Jewish world, but will, in fact, deepen your engagement.

For a complete guide to the Hartman Institute video channels, click here.

See my EMBED or my little show.
Hello people!
In this blog I will take discussion about broadcasting

See my EMBED or my little show.

Hello people!

In this blog I will take discussion about broadcastings services on the net. I do not take any part to any one of services.
I will write the thing I see and like or not.

I start with the new service on the internet. It calls Yaika! Web address is yaika.com. Technology they are using is flash based and works fine.

I been testing many different broadcaster services on the net. Some of them is god, some is sucks.

For example we have followings services:
1. http://mogulus.com/
2. http://justin.tv/
3. http://blogtv.com/
4. http://ustream.com/
5. Yahoo Live http://live.yahoo.com/
6. etc.

Of them 5 is only one (maybe 2) there I can see quality and usability for visitors and users. I like personally Yahoo Live. Great service in case you want to make only one broadcasting
channel. Very good design and all goes very smooth from registration until creating of channel.

But if you wanna create or do more then "stupid" broadcasting, then others work fine. But, most of them has to much around and some times it feels like super software with
1000 functions there people start get fillings like "I am stupid or...".

But why is Yaika!; great design, good structure, easy registration and user ability. Try you self! If you think different please tell it here. And maybe we can create discussion.

What can you do on Yaika? The answer is a lot!

1. Create your own video channels for live broadcasting
2. Create your own Radio channels
3. Record your broadcastings and give people do the same
4. Use multiply cameras. You can use more then one on the same computer. Works perfectly. Tested!
5. Best of all, is "Call-in" function. You can call to broadcaster and have live discussions. The audience will see both of you.
6. Chat
7. Blog

1. Creating of channel.
Creating of channel is a very easy procedure that takes less than one minute. You create a channel, then start broadcast. In case you have more than one camera, all connected cameras works and uses by you for broadcasting.
With help of 2 or 3 cameras you can create better content and such interactivity, there people can see not only you but other things too.
Before I go to next point want to say that Yaika! has "Call-in" function that gives people possibility make call in to broadcasting studio and participate in the show. People will see the broadcaster and one or more people who made a call-in. Cool function. I tested it some times, made calls and spoke in real time. It is a like TV, but better, MUCH BETTER!

2. Radio channel
It is the same procedure to create a radio channel as video channel. Works perfect for people who has knowledge of being DJ and radio studio. The service that provides gives possibility to have
different inputs and microphones connected to your radio channel. That means you can have a music that goes from computer live and at the same time mix sound and voices in real time. It gives people filling of real Radio station.
Cool!

3. Recording
Broadcasters can easily record theirs shows and gives viewers also make recordings for future needs. If you create f.ex. kitchen show there you show how to cook, people can record it and see it later.
The only thing I do not like with it is that Yaika! not allowed user to download recorded movie.

4. Multiply cameras
I already did write about it. But one thing I forget, for example I take my computer and my cameras. I have iMac with two cameras. One is inside and one is plug-get into USB.
Then I have CamTwist (software to simulate webcam). When I create a show I see 3 cameras. One is to show me, the other one is to show "window view" and the third is a something that I want to show from my files.
It can be a video, movie or music clips and etc. There we have a show, real one.

5. Call-in
Not much here. You have to test it! No one today have this function. It is the best you can have...

6. Chat
Chat with people around the channel and content.

7. Blog
Yaika gives people possibility to create video blogs. For every broadcasting you have comments that works like a blog. People can read comments, see recordings and se small pics from the show, in case there no recordings made.

The best way to understand what is Yaika is it is to test it. Please, do it, then we can have some discussion about it.

Here is the finally plus/minus:

Plus
+ Call-ins
+ Recording
+ Multiply cameras
+ Radio
+ User ability
+ Localized (english, swedish, russian, estonian and dutch. it says that more languages is on the way)

Minus
- Nobody knows about Yaika. Few users.
- Little tricky to find recordings, but if you find once, then it is no problem
- Help part could be better, but support working good.

That all for today. Tomorrow I write about other broadcasting services.

Mogulus--a company that bills itself as offering companies and
consumers everything they need in order to set up their own live or
on-demand, 24/7 TV channel online, including multiple-camera and
editing capabilities (note: the company claims to have enabled over
100,000 customers to launch their own TV channels, and that the
viewing audience for those channels has doubled every 60 days for the
past 10 months, generating over 200 million unique viewer minutes per
month)--has secured a $10 million investment from its customer,
newspaper publisher Gannett. "Mogulus adds a new and exciting
dimension to Gannett's already broad-based multimedia journalism
efforts," Gannett chairman, president and CEO, Craig A. Dubow, said
in a prepared statement. "Our reporters and photographers in the field
are equipped with video cameras, laptops and broadband wireless
connections to enable timely and relevant news delivery to the Web.
Now, with Mogulus, all our journalists--including print and Web
reporters--can deliver live, multicamera broadcasts of news events to
our customers. Live Internet broadcasting tools are essential in this new
media age. We believe in the space and in the ability of Mogulus to
deliver."

In April, Mogulus signed a deal with the Gannett to provide
broadcasting services on its newspapers' Web sites. Gannett papers
have since then used Mogulus's service for a number of projects,
including a live Webcast of an interview with Democratic presidential
candidate, Barack Obama, by the Indianapolis Star (Gannett says that
the interview attracted 40,000 concurrent viewers); and a live Webcast
of an interview with rival Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary
Clinton, by the Sioux Falls Argus Leader. According to Mogulus, its
service allows end-users to easily mix multiple live cameras, video
clips and overlay graphics. The company, which also counts Fox as a
customer, currently offers an ad-supported free service, but says that it
will shortly launch a white-label "Pro" version of the service.
According to Mogulus co-founder and CEO, Max Haot, the company
plans to use the new funding to accelerate development of Mogulus
Pro, recruit senior service-sales and advertising-sales executives, and
"deploy the Mogulus Pro service deeper within Gannett properties and
those of other customers."
