A video that discusses a Mozilla lab "attempt to find new user interfaces that could make it possible for everyone to do common Web tasks more quickly and easily." For instance, emailing a friend to have lunch and being able to insert a Google map, Yelp review, and add this lunch date to your calendar all from the same window without all the hustle and bustle of clicking, opening new tabs, copying+pasting, etc.

mozilla weave logo
Mozilla Weave is an experimental project from Mozilla Labs aiming to synchronize

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="mozilla weave logo"][/caption]

Mozilla Weave is an experimental project from Mozilla Labs aiming to synchronize information of Firefox browser (like bookmarks, saved passwords, tabs, history...) across different computers using a simple extension.

Once installed and configured on each browser it automatically synchronizes these metadata offering the same personal data among different computers.

Since it is still experimental it suffers of some issues, like the most popular at the moment: the authentication problem. I don't know if it is a server issue, but I can't authenticate myself using the default settings.

Searching on forums I found a solution provided by some users: use a different server for storing metadata information. The fix suggested explain how to setup a weave server on myDisk.se (a very useful free webdisk).

Simply create an account on myDisk.se, create this directory structure: "user/youruser", where youruser is your login name, then update the server URL on the advanced tab of the weave options (https://mydisk.se/youruser).

Sign in, synchronize et voilà, you can login again!

An extra advantage of this solution is that synchronizing is a lot faster than the overloaded (for now?) Mozilla default server.

Give it a try!

Chris Blizzard posted a story on Planet Mozilla last night that is sure to cause concern for Comcast

Chris Blizzard posted a story on Planet Mozilla last night that is sure to cause concern for Comcast high speed internet customers across the country. You may remember that the federal government slapped Comcast down for throttling back users who downloaded from torrents. The company has decided that it will place an overall 250GB/month download limit on its customers rather than limiting any one type of download.

The new limits, which will go into effect 1 October, actually won't mean a lot for 99% of their customers, according to the cable company. They have posted some comparisons on their FAQ of what it will take to reach the new limit.

To reach 250 GB in a month, for example, a customer would have to do any of the following:

Send 50 million emails (at 0.05 KB/email)

Download 62,500 4 MB songs (at 4 MB/song)

Download 125 standard-definition movies (at 2 GB/movie)

Upload 25,000 hi-resolution digital photos (at 10 MB/photo)

The big problem is that people who use streaming video, such as watching videos on Amazon, Netflix or the new WB.com website, will have a better shot at hitting the limit each month. And Chris points out that they didn't have a calculation for YouTube and Hulu vids. As Cnet's Josh Lowensohn writes, services like Carbonite and Mozy that let you backup your hard drives online will also help people reach their monthly bandwidth limit.

Comcast states that the first month you hit the limit you'll be contacted by the company, but if it happens again within a six-month period they will loose their net connection completely for a calendar year.

I'll admit when I first saw this story I was pretty ticked, especially in light of Comcast's ad campaign for their faster high-speed connection, but as I looked into it more and discussed it with the roomies I realize we may not have that much to worry about. Unfortunately there's a question on their FAQ about any usage monitoring tools that isn't very helpful at all.

How does Comcast help its customers track their usage so they can avoide exceeding the limit?

There are many online tools customers can download and use to measure their consumption. Customers can find such tools by simply doing a Web search - for example, a search for "bandwidth meter" will provide some options. Customers using multiple PCs should just be aware that they will need to measure and combine their total monthly usage in order to identify the data usage for their entire account.

In other words, they're just limiting your total downloads. Their subscribers are on their own to figure out how much they actually download each month.

Both of my roomies play MMORPGs, so we're concerned about the amount of bandwidth that will get sucked up by Lord of the Rings Online. And of course with Ubuntu Intrepid currently in late beta stage it could affect my plans to help beta test the next release. Each update that gets downloaded for either LOTRO or Ubuntu, as well as for my roomies' Windows computers, will add to our total bandwidth usage.

In the coming month the roomies will try to figure out how much bandwidth their MMOPRGs consume and see if it's possible to download patches to one computer to share with the other. I, of course, will have to carefully watch my download of updates to Ubuntu Intrepid in the coming month. Since the cap goes into effect after September I suspect I'll be grabbing the testing version of Intrepid once it leaves alpha stage and make a point of getting as up to date as possible before 1 October.

It almost makes us want to switch ISPs, but the only real alternative for us is Verizon DSL, and we've already taken our business elsewhere due to their rate increases, unreliable connection, and horrible customer service. In fact we left Verizon to switch to Comcast, so we may be up a certain creek with nary a paddle to navigate.

- referitor la "bazdagania albastruie" poti sa mergi la Manage Search Providers si sa disable optiunile de "Search Suggestions" pentru providerul tau de search;
s.a.m.d.

[Concluzia lui Gigi Marga]: Microsoft s-a chinuit sa imbunatateasca IE in versiunea beta insa majoritatea userilor novici nu stiu sa-l configureze si sa-l foloseasca pentru a beneficia de imbunatatirile aduse. IE5 era suficient pentru majoritatea userilor.
Cel mai bine este sa se astepte versiunea finala care speram ca se va configura din start in asa fel incat "profesionistii" care scriu review-uri sa nu aiba atatea probleme;

- Add-on leggero e stabile
- E possibile creare una lista nera
- Comando veloce di disattivazione/attivazione

E molti altri pregi....

Aza Raskin has been keeping busy. Mozilla announced an early prototype of Ubiquity this week. They bill it as a command line for the web; if you're a Mac user, think of it as somewhat like Quicksilver or LaunchBar. You can use a special key combination that will let you start typing a command, with the tool suggesting likely completions and executing whatever command you specify. There's an obvious lineage here from Enso, Aza's previous work, although the shift from the Windows desktop to the Web is an interesting one that arguably opens more opportunities.

The early examples are a little simple (why do all mashups seem to center around maps?), but they hint at some possibilities that could be quite intriguing down the road (although for me to really start using it they'd have to tie in with my desktop apps; I like web services, but I'm not a all-web-all-the-time convert). It'll be interesting to see what they (and others) do with it.

Astazi va vom da urmatorul sfat: folositi Mozilla.
5 - deschide Mozilla si tocmai te-si ales cu un browser impecabil care te scuti de vesnica eroare "Internet Explorer has encounterd errors and will be closed by Windows"

Bravo, de-acum poti sa-mi citesti Blogul in cele mai bune conditii ;)

[caption id="attachment_11" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="La Bibliothèque"][/caption]
[caption id="attachment_12" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Le mini player vraiment mini"][/caption]
[caption id="attachment_14" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Jamendo sauce Songbird"][/caption]

Ubiquity is a natural-language command based interface that allows you to accomplish common tasks from your browser easier and faster.

The overall goals of Ubiquity are to explore how best to:

    * Empower users to control the web browser with language-based instructions. (With search, users type what they want to find. With Ubiquity, they type what they want to do.)
* Enable on-demand, user-generated mashups with existing open Web APIs. (In other words, allowing everyone–not just Web developers–to remix the Web so it fits their needs, no matter what page they are on, or what they are doing.)
* Use Trust networks and social constructs to balance security with ease of extensibility.
* Extend the browser functionality easily.

The technology has significant potential, but I don't see any features currently available that are particularly exciting to me personally.

Mozilla Labs' Ubiquity Integrates Easily

Mozilla Labs has opened its doors again to share its ingenuity with the rest of the Web. Looking for a way to change the way we browse, Mozilla Labs has launched Ubiquity, a visual interface that plugs into Firefox, Mozilla's open source browser, and may change the way users interact with the Web.

It's still a little early in Ubiquity's life to call it a game changer, but there are some promising elements in place.

Writing on the Mozilla Labs blog, Aza Raskin lays out the plan for Mozilla's Ubiquity. "Today we're announcing the launch of Ubiquity, a Mozilla Labs experiment into connecting the Web with language in an attempt to find new user interfaces that could make it possible for everyone to do common Web tasks more quickly and easily," wrote Raskin.

Right now adding a map to an email requires you to go to an online map service, type in an address, copy the link and paste it into the email for the recipient to click on and peruse. Ubiquity changes that approach. By installing Ubiquity on a machine with Firefox, users can open the Ubiquity window, type in the address they are looking for, insert the image into an email message and send it along.

Not satisfied with just the map? Maybe you want to attach a review of the restaurant where a group of friends are meeting up? Ubiquity can search Yelp and attach the review to the same email. Now all the information the recipient needs is on hand and in one message.

Currently, Ubiquity is only compatible with Gmail. And that's just one example of what Ubiquity can do. Google searches, Wikipedia searches, a calculator function and text translator are just a few of the other functionalities that come built into Ubiquity.

След инсталирането напиши в адресната лента about:config и Enter, намираш general.useragent.locale и го преправяш от en-US на bg-BG.

Supposedly, as I age, I'll stop learning new technology. It happened to my grandmothers. And to my parents, who don't see the benefit of texting but will call for a two word conversation. The older men and women I work with aren't so quick with new technology either, even when it's job-related. When will I reach this event horizon? Have I already? Or, because I grew up navigating the ever-shifting microcosm of hardware and software, will I never stop learning and appreciating and anticipating?

I love change. As much as I dreaded Vista, I was delighted to see the operating system evolving. I geek out every time Mozilla updates their browser; every time I find a new add-on or macro; every time I read about the advances AMD and Intel are making. I love researching new computers, new cars, new software, new apple varieties (the edible kind), new book genres, new cell phone technology, new ways to make things work. Sometimes I cling to the old if I don't like the new (case-in-point, I still play AD&D 2.0; the establishment just released 4.0). But I still research and read and learn and figure it out.

Will I ever wake up and not care that Intel has found a new way to make processors faster? Will I ever not gleefully anticipate ground-breaking technology, like wireless charging? Maybe. Maybe, in another 50 years or so, I won't care how fast my computer is, because I can only move so fast. But for now, I'm still downloading beta... okay, alpha... software because I'm so excited! And I just can't hide it! I know, I know (I know I know). Okay, I'll stop! *ducks*

Today, I start exploring Ubiquity.

E qual a novidade?

Basta digitar "email this to fulano".
