No dia 11 aconteceu o encerramento com missa, uma grande quermesse e jantar típico, em frente à Catedral com um show da Dupla DDD - Doidin de Deus.

História - O Divino Espírito Santo começou a ser festejado em Portugal no início do século XIV. Os festejos surgiram no Brasil nos tempos coloniais, no reinado de Dom João VI. No século XVII espalhou-se por todas as colônias portuguesas.

A Festa do Divino tornou-se tradicional e se cristalizou em estados como Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Mato Grosso e Goiás. Curiosamente, a denominação de imperador, para o principal festeiro do evento, originou-se do fato de Dom Pedro I ter sido Imperador e não Rei do Brasil.

Em Cuiabá, nas primeiras décadas do século passado, a cidade chegou a ter duas festas do Divino Espírito Santo: uma do bairro do Porto e outra da Catedral, com poucos dias de diferença uma da outra. Em meados da década de 30, a Festa do Divino foi unificada e, na memória dos cuiabanos mais antigos ainda resistem às imagens das festas que aconteciam no Campo D’Ourique, com direito a touradas, local onde atualmente está sediada a Câmara Municipal de Mato Grosso.

A loose and comfortable voluminous silhouette ruled the runway here - great for hiding those post-pregnancy bulges, say - with enough flirty details like bows at the waist or glitzy beaded embellishment to keep it from completely entering soccer mom territory.

And J.Lo looks no less than spectacular!

A Will County judge will wait until May 22 to decide the fate of 11 guns seized from Drew Peterson’s home, the judge said Thursday.

After hearing arguments from Peterson’s lawyers and state prosecutors, Judge Richard Schoenstedt said he needed more time to reach a decision but said he agreed with Peterson’s attorneys on at least one argument.

“This court is of the opinion that the state cannot withhold the firearms indefinitely simply because [Drew Peterson] doesn’t have an FOID card or because he can’t possess and enjoy the [firearms],” Schoenstedt said.

Peterson’s attorney Joel Brodsky said he was confident the judge’s remarks signaled an eventual victory for his client.

“[Schoenstedt] indicated very strongly that he’s going to order the weapons turned over to Stephen Peterson and that Drew’s entitled to transfer the guns to whoever he sees fit because it’s his property,” Brodsky said.

On Feb. 27, Schoenstedt ordered the state to return all items -- including the guns, two vehicles, and computers -- seized during a Nov. 1 search warrant execution on Peterson’s home. The next day state police, at the request of the Will County State’s Attorney’s office, revoked Peterson’s Firearm Owner’s Identification card, rendering moot the judge’s decision in regard to the firearms.

Peterson has appealed the FOID revocation but state police have not yet responded.

“Pretty soon we’re going to take action to force some sort of response,” Brodsky said of the appeal.

In the meantime, Brodsky had asked the judge to allow Peterson’s son Stephen, an Oak Brook police officer, to take possession of the guns. Peterson has legally transferred the guns, worth about $10,000, to his son. The judge will rule on that request on May 22.

Assistant State’s Atty. John Connor argued Thursday it would be inappropriate to relinquish the firearms in the middle of an investigation into “possibly two 1st degree murder charges.”

“It’s not a questions of forever,” Connor said. “It’s a questions of whether now is the right time.”

Peterson is the only suspect in his fourth wife Stacy’s Oct. 28 disappearance, which police are calling a “potential homicide.” A special grand jury was convened in November to investigate that case and the March 2004 drowning of Peterson’s third wife Kathleen Savio, whose death was recently ruled a homicide.

Peterson has denied any involvement in either case and has not been charged with a crime.

Brodsky said the nature of Savio’s death and the lack of evidence showing a firearm was used the day Stacy Peterson disappeared show the state does not have a right to the firearms.

“There’s no nexus between the investigation and these weapons,” Brodsky said. “There’s simply no reason for the state to keep them.”

The latest hip-hop star to face prison time is Remy "I look too good to be fcukin' you" Ma for shooting her homegirl in the gut over $3000 and fleeing the club in the meatpacking district of Manhattan where the incident took place. She was sentenced to 8 long years in prison. The details from E-Online:

In March, a jury convicted her on four counts, including assault, weapons possession and attempted coercion, for shooting Makeda Barnes-Joseph in the gut last July in a dispute over $3,000. She faced more than 25 years behind bars.

After State Supreme Court Justice Rena Uviller handed down the punishment, Ma's fiancé, fellow hip-hopster Papoose, sparked a melee as he screamed invective at the victim, who took the stand earlier asking for a harsh sentence.

"Get the f--k off me. F--k y'all. F--k jail," the performer [Papoose] yelled as the hearing ended and bailiffs escorted him out of the Manhattan court. "I don't care. Lock me up. Lock me up. Take me to jail. Arrest me. It's all about money."

Papoose was caught by Rikers Island corrections officers last week allegedly trying to smuggle his betrothed a handcuff key as the two were about to tie the knot in a jailhouse wedding. He wasn't charged, but the nuptials were nixed.

That key smuggling bit is so sad I can't even laugh at it--obviously an act of desperation, if in fact it's true. I do feel bad for her. I don't think prison will solve anything--and I am not big on punishment as a form of social redress more generally. But can we just not shoot people?

But really. It's been very clear that hip-hop stars are being widely surveilled (sp?) over the last several years, and the police, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies are clearly sending the message that if you're associated with hip-hop and do some shit out of the bounds of "law," you're going to prison. Besides that, I find myself in between a rock and a hard place. I know the systemic issues at play that creat accessibility to guns and the kinds of urban poverty (in the face of gluttonous and violent wealth accumulation) that drives the kinds of acts of violence that seem senseless. I am from the same kind of community. I get the fact that I only made it "out"(not that I, as a Black gay man, escape the scrutiny, disgust, and violence of the state) because of the push of family, friends and some teachers who decided I was the one worth giving a damn about.

But sometimes I am at a loss for defending or even trying to put to words this kind of foolishness. What is the language for critiquing institutional racism, sexism and capitalism while also critiquing the fact that these systems support and drive individuals to be alienated, disaffected, and violent? I want to see a way out of this mess, but I sometimes come up short.

If you read the article, it's about a piece the Vatican astronomer (who apparently is the "Vatican") wrote in the "Vatican newspaper" (I assume La Osservatore Romano). The jist of the story: believing in extraterestial life is not contrary to the Catholic faith. Gee... no kidding. I guess it made for a great headline. It's like they think Catholics wait on bated breath for what the Vatican says we can and cannot do. I wonder if we are allowed to eat pie. Or play baseball. I wonder if it's ok to use more than one sheet of toilet paper or believe the lunar landing was a hoax.

Hmm.... I shall write Rome and await the answer. Once Rome has spoken on this matter of divine revelation, I'll pass the answer on. Until then I'm not sure what we do. What to think. What to think... It's anarchy!

Clarification because I know someone's gonna ask: Of course, what the Vatican says regarding matters of faith and morals is very important to Catholics. But such statements tend to happen in encyclical letters or ecumenical councils, not silly columns in a Vatican newspaper.

Earlier, Mr. Ellaeh posted the story on Facebook's "stalker feature." Here's my take on it: I am willing to bet that some nerd decided to write in some html code that would expose people's creepy habits and now Facebook is trying to cover it up...

Gawker -- "Facebook tries to surface the people we think are most important to users to make it easier and faster for them to navigate the site and find what they are looking for...The search drop down is not a list of those that have searched for the user. It is also not a list of people whose profile the user has viewed the most or who have viewed the user's profile the most. To avoid any confusion, this will no longer appear."

Yeah right. I don't buy into this crap, especially since Facebook refuses to elaborate on the "factors" they use to determine who is "most important" to each individual user. That just tells me they f'd up and this is the excuse they are giving. Right now some nerd is getting his ass reamed out by Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook's creator) for a prank that exposes people's stalking habits. 5 users who are "most important"...yeah right, more like 5 users who check your profile the most. I see right through you, Facebook.

I bet millions of people collectively shit their pants today when this news broke. Raise your hand if you've ever used Facebook to stalk someone... "Everyone's doin' it." Well, now everyone has been exposed. The hot broad with huge cans from your Spanish class now knows you check her profile 234893101 times a day because your name is now at the top of her "drop down list." Yup, your ex-boyfriend who broke up with you last year now knows that you've read his profile more than anyone else in the last year. Gotcha! How many 12 year-olds do you think asked their parents who the 40 year-old men are that show up on their "drop down lists?" Uh oh.

No wonder the Internet has been in meltdown mode today. Way to go Facebook.

When asked earlier today whether congress voting to stop putting crude oil into the strategic reserve which would add about 70,000 gallons of gasoline to the approximately 22,000,000 gallons that the United States uses daily ... which would have the effect of decreasing a gallon of gasoline by $0.05 a gallon, he said he thought this was a good idea ... every little bit helps."

That is what he actually said, "Every little bit helps."

But when asked about the gas tax rebate which would have the effect of decreasing the price of gasoline by $0.18 a gallon, he reiterated that the rebate was a bad idea.

Now ...

I know it's been a long time since I took any math courses, especially comparing numbers like 5 and 18. It had to be somewhere back in elementary school ... first or second grade. But, unless things have changed dramatically, 5 is still less than 18. Even when my classmates and I were introduced to new or Modern Math in the seventh grade, 5 was still less than 18.

So ...

Why is Barack Obama's five cents better than Hillary Clinton's and John McCain's 18 cents?

I know it has to do with the transportation infrastructure fund and stopping adding crude oil to the strategic reserve, but ... still ... when is a lesser little bit better than a greater little bit. And as far as comparing the infrastructure fund with the strategic oil reserve, what is the defineable distinction? what is the difference between taking money out of your left pocket or your right pocket?

And since when did any Democrat or Republican have any respect for the integrity of any specified fund? They've all been raiding the Social Security Fund since its inception. Just throw in a few I.O.U.s. What another I.O.U.?

What's the point in protecting the highway fund when very few will be able to use the highways in the future?

And, if you listen to what the politicians and environmentalists are saying, that's exactly the purpose of doing nothing substantial? If gasoline prices keep getting higher, people will be forced to drive less.

The only problem is that people are driving less and gasoline prices are getting higher. At what point will the Democrats decide that the prices are high enough to do something more immediate like setting aside a few of their sacred cows ... when working people can't afford to drive to work ... when people have to choose between food and clothing versus fuel to get to work to earn the money to get food and clothing or housing?

With the price of diesel fuel essentially doubling in the past six months, how long will it be before the price of all goods dependent on the trucking industry for distribution to increase proportionally?

A final word ... my inflated 2 cents worth ...

Topping of this country's strategic oil reserve makes a lot more sense than protecting the highway fund. What's the point in protecting the highway fund if you can't protect the country? But then, what's the point in filling the strategic oil reserve when you have to buy the oil from your present and future enemies and your ability to run your military more than three months is dependent on their good will since your own elected leaders won't let you "drill, drill, drill" in your own back yard?

Some bright inventor need to figure out how to operate an Abrams tank or a B1 bomber on solar panels and wind turbines.

I wanted to say a quick "thank you" to everyone for all their support and love along the way. We are so lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful people.

Now that the actual day is coming faster than a speeding bullet (lame reference- I know!) things are bound to get hectic so let me just throw out a blanket apology right now. I've tried really hard to not be some "bridezilla" but in the process may have taken a bit too laise-faire of an attitude... now we really have to get moving. So if you have any suggestions (especially on DJs and Ministers) we are all ears.

I'm brand new to this blogging thing so please forgive my random rambling.
