Bolton boy Khan 18-0(14) makes his PPV debut on Sky this Saturday (6th September) against little-known Columbian Breidis Prescott 19-0(17).

Quickly dubbed "two jabs" by boxing fans in a reference to his heavyweight namesake, Prescott's record may look impressive, but the vast majority of his opponents are extremely poor.

We know that Khan's chin may be a worry when he steps up the class of opposition (he was dropped by Michael Gomez last time out - the third time he's touched the canvas in his career) but Prescott's KO ratio is flattering. When he stepped up in his last fight (against an opponent 10-0-1) he was taken the distance. Given Khan's speed and his reported commitment to tightening up his defensive skills in training, a general 10/1 is not brilliant for Prescott to win by KO.

The only choice to make is how Khan will win. There seems little value in going with Khan by KO at a bet price of 1/6 given Prescott has never seemingly been knocked down. Prescott is also matching Khan for height, which may help him cope with the onslaught, but the danger is the referee will stop the fight due to the gulf in class.

Recommendation:

Amir Khan by decision 9/1 with sportingbet 1pt

Amir Khan in rounds 10-12 14/1 with bet365 1/2 pt

With the NFL kicking off, it’s time for another fruitless season of picking with the spread in

With the NFL kicking off, it's time for another fruitless season of picking with the spread in mind -- and losing about $20-$50 or more a week while doing so. I will still pick the Broncos' games, even though it's tempting bad luck. Home teams in caps.

(Yes, I'll bet on Eli. Hell, he lands a pretty wife, wins the Super Bowl, deserves a chance with my wallet.)

GIANTS (-3.5) over Redskins - Growing pains for the Zorn Star's new offense on the road to open the season.

49ERS (+2.5) over Cardinals - When it comes to NFC Worst games not involving the Seahawks, bet the home team. There is not enough of a difference between Arizona and San Francisco to believe a favorite will cover.

BILLS (+1) over Seahawks - I've been burned too many times on Seattle traveling east of St. Louis to play a game. It never works.

Bengals (-1) over RAVENS - Rookie QB from I-AA school starting for Baltimore. Pass

Cowboys (-5.5) over BROWNS - I see a shootout along the lines of the Browns' game with the Bengals last year. Lots of points, Dallas wins by a touchdown.

Lions (-3) over FALCONS - See Bengals over Ravens, except this rookie QB is from the ACC.

Bears (+9.5) over COLTS - Not to win, mind you, just to cover. I suspect some fits and starts with Indy thanks to offensive line injuries, and that Kyle Orton will not suck as much as we expect.

Jaguars (-3) over TITANS - I want to see Tennessee produce points before I decide to favor them again this year.

PATRIOTS (-16.5) over Chiefs - Trade away your best pass rusher and you've still got Brodie Croyle as your QB. Interesting way to go if you're Carl Petersen.

SAINTS (-3) over Buccaneers - Always home team on this one.

DOLPHINS (+3) over Jets - Chad Pennington's Vengeance Tour begins with the Fins smacking Favraro around a bit.

EAGLES (-7.5) over Rams - Team from the best division in football (or at least the NFC) against the barrel-scrapers in the league's worst division. Easy call.

Texans (+6.5) over STEELERS - Pitt wins by 3 or 4 points, not a full TD. Low scoring game thanks to defense on both sides.

CHARGERS (-9) over Panthers - No Steve Smith, no offense, no chance. Sorry.

Broncos (-3) over RAIDERS - Our lack of a defensive presence against Oakland's lack of a real O-line. This will be ugly; bet on the more talented and experienced QB.

PACKERS (-2.5) over Vikings - Remember, Tavaris Jackson is the QB and this is a road game. The frozen tundra isn't frozen yet and isn't what it used to be, but Green Bay has a better aggregate of offensive talent, Adrian Peterson notwithstanding.

By John King

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) -- Move over Gustav, Bush and even Sarah Palin. This is John McCain's night. In his words, it's a moment "of awe and humility."

Above: Sen. John McCain says he is the person to bring the "right kind of change" to the country.

Forty-one years after he was shot down over Hanoi and 25 years after he first came to Washington as a freshman GOP congressman, McCain will accept the presidential nomination of a Republican Party with which he has often sparred.

"When I think of getting the nomination of the party of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan -- to think that a guy who stood fifth from the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy could get the nomination of his party, of the Republican Party, is quite a phenomenal thing and every once in a while, I do pinch myself," he said.

When McCain's speech is over, there will be 62 days left in what has been a remarkable and surprising presidential election cycle. He also knows the odds are against him, given political dynamics that significantly favor the Democrats and Barack Obama.

McCain hopes, through his acceptance speech followed by the nine-week sprint to Election Day, to make the case that Obama is not up to the challenge of being commander in chief and that Americans, dealing with a struggling economy, would suffer higher taxes if they give the Democrats control of the White House and Congress.

"I admire Sen. Obama and what he's done," McCain told CNN in one of a series of interviews this spring and summer. "I think what I have got to do is show people the differences in how we are going to change Washington and America and the differences in our positions and portray them in a substantive and, hopefully, a fairly eloquent fashion."

I figure I’ll start doing some weekly picks for the football season. Not every game, and not

I figure I'll start doing some weekly picks for the football season. Not every game, and not just the easy ones (won't do games with a spread greater than or equal to 7), just 5 or so random games each week. I'll pick the outright winner, the winner ATS (against the spread) and the O/U (over/under), and keep track of my record... which will probably be about as good as any team from the NL West. I'll try to get He Hate Me to do the same... he is a much more willing and able gambler than myself so it would make sense.

1. Washington +3.5 @ NY Giants

Fact of the matter is, the Giants were really not that great of a football team last season. Last regular season, not postseason. I don't expect them to suddenly become a 14-2 team just because they won the Super Bowl. The Redskins, however, were not a great team either. I do like them just a tad more than the Giants to start off the year, but not enough to win in New York.

Washington 17 - NY Giants 20. Giants win outright, Washington covers, Under 41.

2. Dallas -5.5 @ Cleveland

Cleveland is banged up just enough to let this one get a hint ugly. Dallas' defense is better and I think that's where they separate themselves in this one.

Dallas 34 - Cleveland 24. Dallas wins outright and covers, Over 49.

3. Minnesota +2.5 @ Green Bay

I have to pick the Vikings over the Packers, don't I? Isn't it like a law for Vike's fans to do so? It's gotta be. I hate the Pack. Hate them. Jared Allen is going to make Aaron Rodgers eat turn and KevPat Williams will do the same to Grant. Jackson will be a little shaky under the Monday Night Lights, but I think my boys in Purple pull out a low scoring affair.

Minnesota 16 - Green Bay 13. Minnesota wins outright and covers, Under 38.

4. Arizona - 2.5 @ San Francisco

I don't love Arizona, but the Niners are pretty bad. As long as no flies land on Warner's throwing arm and cause a compound fracture, I like the Card's strong O to beat out the Niner's strong D. Fitz and Boldin are too much, even with the improvements the Niners have made in their secondary the last couple seasons.

Arizona 20 - San Francisco 13. Arizona wins outright and covers, Under 42.

5. Seattle +1 @ Buffalo

I am slightly surprised that Buffalo is favored, even if only by 1 at home, but upon further review I suppose it makes sense. Buffalo was a young team that went 7-9 last year, while Seattle was an old team that went 10-6. Say Buffalo improves by a game and Seattle gets worse by a game, which may even be conservative estimates, suddenly the teams are only a game apart. So, long story short, I like Buffalo to win and by more than a single point. I think 20 points may be too many for the still young offense against a very stout Seattle defense, but throw in a defensive touchdown and a couple field goals, and suddenly the Bills O just need find the end zone once.

Seattle 17 - Buffalo 20. Buffalo wins outright and covers, Under 39.

---

Current Record

Win Outright: 0-0
ATS: 0-0
O/U: 0-0
Overall: 0-0
