At any rate, these men are convinced beyond all reason that the rabid dogs won’t tear livelihood to bits and that justice will survive in the shadows of the rich and the powerful. The poor are assured that they will get their just deserts, so long as government moves out of the way, leaving the capitalist free to do as he pleases. Were the government to step aside, the poor would receive a living wage, proper working conditions, and the kind of fair treatment they deserve as fellow citizens. Or so we are told.

But who in their right mind will argue that throwing the weak into a system of survival of the fittest would be to the advantage of the weak rather than the fittest? Who would argue that the most vulnerable will thrive in a world of dog-eat-dog, with plenty of dogs being much richer and much craftier than the vulnerable? One cannot doubt that many men do argue such nonsense, but surely not in their right mind. This isn’t to deny their lack of knowledge or to ignore the crafty arguments employed in their defense; rather, I wish only to assume that they fail to see things rightly.

The difficulty here is the will to power. The rich have plenty of it, and more than enough money to fund their projects of social and economic deconstruction. Where the capitalist is left to devise means by which to become wealthier, the simpleton wage-earners spend the majority of their time working for the capitalist in hope of receiving the pathetic pittance he recognizes as a paycheck. All the while the mass of wage-earners are lulled into believing that if we just excuse the one restraining the rabid dogs then all would be well and good. Where one has the will to power, the other has the hope of making it paycheck-to-paycheck.

Having said as much will land me in the dungeon reserved for those who allow their reason to be hampered by lofty notions of solidarity, citizenship, and justice. But all is well, for in here each man is limited, be he rabid or tame, and most seem to be good company.
