E-Center künftig sicher!

Wenn man den Einträgen verblödeter besorgter Wolfenbütteler Bürger im Gästebuch der Wolfenbütteler Homepage Glauben schenken darf, herrschen vor dem E-Center am Bahnhof ja seit jeher chaotische Zustände. Friedliebende Bürger werden dort am hellichten Tag von vergammelten Beatnicks mit alkoholschwangerem Gelalle um Geld, Uhrzeit, oder Ehefrau angebettelt und bei Ignorierung der Aufforderung sofort erschossen, bespuckt und/oder mit aidsverseuchten Spritzen beworfen.

Nun ist Rettung von höchster Stelle in Sicht, um das Wolfenbütteler South Central zu bereinigen. Auf der diesjährigen als "School´s out-Party" getarnten Wolfenbütteler Drogenmesse im Seeliger Park (aka "grüne Lunge Wolenbüttels") mischten sich als Rockmusikfans verkleidete Beamte des Städtischen Sicherheitsdienstes ("SS") unter die lang-, bunt- und schmierhaarigen Taugenichtse und spielten dort ein ebenso perfides wie geniales Rattenfänger-von-Hameln-Spiel mit der degenierten Satanistenbrut:

Das im Aufbau befindliche Städtische Internierungslager für renintente jugendliche Schandflecke wurde dort dem von kommunistischer Negermusik blöd gewordenen Pack als neues "unabhängiges" und "selbstverwaltetes" Jugendzentrum angepriesen, was natürlich auf ungewaschene, aber dennoch offene Ohren stieß, wirken doch die Vokabeln "unäbhängig" und "selbstverwaltet" auf die APO-Urenkel wie ein Hypnotikum. Zu gerne erinnern sich doch die Töchter und Söhne der in Wolfenbüttel als "Generation Mumpitz" berüchtigten Krawallbrüder an die Vorzüge dieses Etablissements: Überall lagen damals auf dem Gelände des "Mumpitz" von aufpeitschender Musik beschallt jugendliche Süchtige herum, denen die abgebrochenen LSD-Joints noch in den Venen steckten, die Obrigkeit war machtlos. Ein Nirvana für jeden von der Syphilis des Rock´n Roll zerfressenen Haschbruder. Und das ganze Gemeinschaftsprojekt von Drogenmafia, Kommunisten und Rockmusikern trug auch noch den die abendländische Kultur Hohn und Spott sprechenden Decknamen "Jugendkulturverein Wolfenbüttel e.V.".

In Kürze werden nun also diese E-Center-Chaoten ganz von selbst lemminghaft in dieses "Jugendzentrum" ( ;-) )strömen und höchstwahrscheinlich sehr verdutzt sein, wenn die schwere Tür hinter ihnen klickend ins Schloß fällt. Und wer die voraussichtlich zwei Wochen dauernde Umerziehungsbeschallung mit Florian Silbereisens größten Hits übersteht, wird NIE wieder vor dem E-Center unbescholtene Bürger belästigen, versprochen.

World Wide Partner Conference 2008

The Microsoft world wide partner conference were in July 2008 held in Houston, Texas. 200+ Danish partners were participating alongside several thousands Microsoft partners from all over the world.

From a SaaS perspective it was hard to notice that Microsoft Software+Service strategy were the overall theme of the conference - and this is a great highlight (if the biggest highlight was not Steve Ballmers Keynote where he got on stage, the mike did not work and he screamed: I guess I don’t need this one…”Back stage they said hey your mic doesn’t work …I said, my mic doesn’t work? But my voice always works!!” :)

Anyway if you are interested Microsoft have launched a great site to access the presentations, see videos of the keynotes etc. (highly recomendable)

The guidelines for the group project and take-home quiz are available at the photocopier near the library. Take home quiz is due on monday after humanities (i think) and the performance for the group project is on *insert date here. edit nyo na lang. ewan ko eh. haha*.

GM divulga primeiras imagens oficiais do Camaro SS

Na semana passada, vazou na internet uma imagem da versão mais apimentada do recém-lançado muscle car da Chevrolet. Hoje (25), porém, a montadora norte-americana divulgou as primeiras imagens do Camaro SS, principal concorrente do Dodge Challenger. Sobre este, por sinal, o Camaro SS leva vantagem em tecnologia, mas perde em potência - são apenas 3cv a menos. Além do novo motor, o cupê recebeu ajustes mecânicos, como por exemplo os novos freios Brembo de maior diâmetro.

Fazendo jus à nomenclatura SS, o Camaro vem equipado com um propulsor de 8 cilindros em "V" e 6.2l, capaz de render 422cv de potência, caso venha acoplado com a trasmissão manual LS4. Com a caixa automática seqüencial, o esportivo perde potência e estaciona na casa dos 400cv. Sem previsões de chegar ao Brasil, o Chevrolet Camaro SS chega às primeiras revendas norte-americanas em breve e, no começo do ano que vem, o modelo será vendido também na Europa.

'Splat the Cat' or 'My Dad, John McCain'. What Will Your Kids Read?

This week sees me in LA - to do some illustration work for a charity I'm involved with, catch up with a Kiwi friend over here, and grab some much needed sun in preparation for London's upcoming winter, which is short on daylight hours.

Squandering time in Malibu bookshop 'Diesel' yesterday was a charming experience, and I picked up a reprint of a 1950s kid's book I've wanted for ages; 'Pet of The Met' by Lydia & Don Freeman. It was a feel-good cozy moment... right until I hit the 'New [Children's] Titles' section in which these two books were on display:
'Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope', (Nikki Grimes & Bryan Collier);
'Hillary Rodham Clinton: Dreams Taking Flight', (Kathleen Krull & Amy June Bates).

A faint, uncomfortable queasiness gripped my stomach as I flicked through the pages... not from jetlag or the carrot cake muffin of epic proportions I'd just consumed at Malibu Kitchen either.

I skimmed through the Clinton fairytale, and Obama's exotic childhood, wondering if Simon & Schuster had produced a McCain spin-off as well. (They have. 'My Dad, John McCain', by Meghan McCain & Dan Andreasen).

My Diesel cash went on 'Pet of the Met' and 'Americans Who Tell The Truth' (Robert Shetterly) - books that don't look like they've been conjured up by a sales and marketing team - and today I wandered onto Amazon.com to see how 'My Dad', 'Son of Promise' and 'Dreams Taking Flight' are doing.

As it happens, all three fall well behind new-ish releases by top children's authors and illustrators - at least for the moment, parents who shop online are still opting to spend their hard earned on 'Splat the Cat' (Rob Scotton) and 'The Pigeon Wants a Puppy' (Mo Willems) over 'My Dad, John McCain'.

Chevrolet Camaro SS aparece em evento de moda

Comumente associada ao público masculino, a imagem de um muscle-car - nome dado aos modelos potentes e com visual agressivo - não combina com a delicadeza de um evento de moda. Pois foi o que a GM fez com o recém-lançado Camaro, divulgando a variante SS, mais apimentada ainda, no Condé Nast "Fashion Rocks". O Chevrolet Camaro SS chega às primeiras concessionárias norte-americana em março do ano que vem.

A nova geração do Camaro, modelo clássico da GM e descontinuado em 2002, terá um novo componente na família. Além da já esperada versão cabriolet, o muscle ganhará mudanças estéticas e mecânicas para fazer jus à nomenclatura SS. Por fora, pára-choques com tomadas de ar maiores e desenho mais agressivo reforçam a identidade visal do Camaro SS. O propulsor V8 de 6.2l e capaz de gerar até 422cv de potência contará com a ajuda de freios Brembo de 355 mm de diâmtro para conter sua força.

Microsoft acaba de publicar una nueva beta del SDK para SQL Server Data Services (SSDS) o lo que es lo mismo, la plataforma de servicios over the cloud que permitirá a las organizaciones almacenar y consultar datos desde cualquier lugar y en cualquier momento.

El SDK, que incluye una herramienta de línea de comandos el explorador SSDS, puede ser descargado desde este enlace.

No Ringing Register

S&S Cycle celebrated its 50 year anniversary in June. Sadly the company announced this week that it would "release" 60 employees through a combination of voluntary separation and layoffs, most of which were made at the engine company's plant in Viola, Wis., but a couple positions were eliminated at the La Crosse, Wis., location too. Two weeks ago the company offered up voluntary separation packages that 33 employees accepted, but even that couldn't stop the decline.

Much has been written of late on the motorcycle parts business, it's health and the difficulties facing aftermarket manufactures and their distribution networks. Clearly motorcycle sales are down and the reduced discretionary spending on parts has Drag Specialties, Bikers Choice, and Custom Chrome all singing the blues while more consumers head to the internet for bargains. I wonder if it's really lack of sales or a deeper industry problem caused by lack of differentiation? Pick up any parts catalog and everything looks similar with price and availability being the main difference.

S&S started out with one goal in mind, the vision of founder George Smith-to make all motorcycles go faster. With that mantra in mind the second and third generations of Smith family have steered the company as a leader in high-performance v-twin components and engines. The S&S core business of bolt-on, high-performance motors remains strong, but with the bankruptcy asset sale of Global Motorsport Group to Dae-Li USA (a Korean group) and makers of RevTech engines I wonder if this is an early prediction of aftermarket directions? Nace Panzica (founder of Custom Chrome) is the president of Dae-Li USA.

It's all about the bottom line numbers...and the register is not ringing.

What is Cloud Computing?

Being one of the few "techies" amongst my group of friends and family, I often get enquiries about technologies and products. Over the weekend, my friend asked, "what is the cloud". I proceeded to explain with much hand waving and within a couple of minutes he had a vacuous look in his eyes. I had driven the car into the weeds.

I thought this document from David Chappell & Associates does a good job of providing an overview from an enterprise perspective. I should have forwarded this link to my friend and called it a day.

Can you picture it? The Yankees without Derek Jeter? It's hard to imagine, but with Jeter's contract coming to an end after 2010, it could be a possibility. Joe Sherman has written about the concept and wonders if the Yankees will extend Jeter or pass him up, as he is aging and showing some signs of decline. Now, do I think that Jeter will ever leave the Yankees? No, I don't. I just don't see it happening, at least not in 2010. As long as Derek Jeter maintains a respectable level of production, he'll be with the New York Yankees, he'll get another contract (albeit a lesser contract) and he'll end his career as a Yankee. Let's not forget what Hank Steinbrenner said earlier this year about "taking care" of Jeter. Also, we've seen the Yankees (under Hank and Hal) provide loyalty-driven contracts to Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada.

I think they'll do the same for Jeter (unless Hanley Ramirez is suddenly available...).

Cómo sabéis, uno de los productos que Microsoft ofrecerá en modalidad S+S es Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online. De esta forma, hablaremos de dos posibles opciones de uso de Microsoft Dynamics para los usuarios:

On-premise, es decir, los clientes compran las licencias y ejecutan las aplicaciones en sus propios servidores.
On-demand, es decir, los clientes se suscriben a un servicio de software en modalidad por usuario y por mes. Dos son las posibilidades de ofrecer este servicio de software por uso:
- Partner-hosted, es decir, son los partners de Microsoft los que se encargan de realizar el hosting de la aplicación y todos sus componentes, proporcionando servicio de soporte y atención al cliente.
- Microsoft-hosted, es decir, es Microsoft quien ofrece el servicio de hostiong de Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online en los cpds corporativos, y quien se encarga de proporcionar el servicio a los usuario a través de Internet.

Pero, ¿Qué diferencias y similitudes hay entre las modalidades On-premise y On-demans?. De acuerdo a este post del equipo de Microsoft Dynamics CRM, las similitudes son:

Ambas soluciones están basadas en el código base de Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, lo que facilita a los clientes la migración de despliegues on-demand a on-premise.
