Thanks to our friends over at Autoblog, we have some scoop pics of Galpin Auto Sports's new SEMA concept - the Ford "Project B". Based on the current Mustang platform, the "Project B" is powered by a stroked 4.6L (now 5.0L) Mustang V8, which is gloriously twin-supercharged... Sounds great! More info after the jump...

Then there are the wheels... Ginormous 24" [inch] rims fill the rear wheel arches while more 'sedate' 22" rims fill the front wheel arches. Behind these big rims there are even bigger 16" Wilwood brakes (or a whopping 406mm in metric measurements) to pull up the easily predictable lightweight monster. It is also rumored to feature a copy of Ford's second-gen SYNC program - which is to debut soon. It certainly does look interesting eh? Keep tuned in November for the unveiling of the finished product...

Many people have already fallen in love with the Ford SYNC system, but soon the system will have eve

Many people have already fallen in love with the Ford SYNC system, but soon the system will have even more to get excited about! For those of you that aren't familiar with SYNC, it is Ford's voice activated fully integrated entertainment and communications system. The system allows drivers the ability to control their Bluetooth enabled cell phones and virtually any digital media player, with simple voice activated commands or the buttons on their stereo. It was introduced in the fall of 2007 in select vehicle lines, and it is already on pace to hit the 1 million mark by early 2009! And by the end of 2008 the system should be available in almost every 2009 Ford vehicle. But that isn't the only upgrade to SYNC. This fall there will be two additional upgrades , 911 Assist and Vehicle Health Report.

911 Assist- If an airbag deploys, the 911 Assist quickly helps place a call to the local 911 emergency operator. (A properly paired, turned on and connected mobile phone must be set up and in the vehicle). There's even a 10-second delay before the call is placed, allowing the occupant a chance to cancel the call if 911 isn't needed.

Vehicle Health Report- Consider it preventative medicine for your vehicle. SYNC will be able to gather vehicle mileage and diagnostic information and send it to Ford via the paired phone for analysis. Then a text message regarding any critical concerns can be sent to the owner immediately. Owners can also review the complete report including, vehicle diagnostics, maintenance, recalls, and multipoint inspection items on syncmyride.com

For more information on SYNC upgrades go to www.syncmyride.com

Was suprised to find an invite for soocial.com in my inbox today. Soocial is an online service that delivers what it states on it's website: "hassle"-free contacts.

What this all boils down too is that this (for now) free service syncs all yours gimo's so that you have all your contacts wherever you go.

Here are the various way to sync:
- macs: a pref app that automatically syncs your adress book with soocial servers
- mobile: sync your cell phone (anxiously awaiting the blackberry app, which is in development)
- Gmail: sync your Gmail adress book
- soocial.com: acces your contacts from any computer
- highrise: a CRM I myself am not familiar with

Setting up is really and the best part is that it's free.

Feel like checking it out yourself ? Head on over to soocial.com.

The Live Mesh team just posted an warning on their "Official Forum" forum:

CAUTION: Please do not delete any folders from your mesh or change folder synchronization settings.

The Live Mesh team has discovered an issue with the latest version of the Live Mesh software, and we want to make our customers aware of it immediately. Please see below for a description of the issue and what to do in the meantime. We thank you for your patience.

Issue description

If you stop synchronizing a folder in your mesh with one of your devices or if you delete a Live Mesh folder from one of your devices, that folder will stop synchronizing with all devices in your mesh. If you were sharing the folder, it will also stop synchronizing with other members' devices. Please note: no data is lost as a result of this issue; the files and folders will remain on the other devices but will no longer be synchronized.

Action

We're working to resolve this issue, and we'll post further announcements when the fix begins deploying and again once deployment is complete. In the meantime, please do not delete any folders from your mesh or change their synchronization settings.

Thank you,
The Live Mesh team

Am pretty sure this will be fixed real soon or something. I won't worry about this.

Fortunately it's easy to fix. Just go to the "Applications" tab in iTunes to un-tick and de-select the App. Then click the Apply button which will remove the App from your device (note 1). After that, go back to the same tab and tick to re-select the App, and click Apply again to re-install it into your device.

Works everytime!

I have been using the zyb sync service for sometime now with no problems at all, it's quick easy and painless to sync your contacts and calendar with it, it's childs play. Got back from a weekend away yesterday and noticed that OVI are now offering the same service.

"The simple way to stay up to date and connected - on the go from your mobile device, PC, or online.

Share your favourite moments with your favourite people. It's simple with Share on Ovi.

Access documents, photos and other files on your remote PC using any internet-connected mobile device, PC or Mac.

Keep your contacts and calendar up to date and backed up online."

I have only so far managed to use the sync service which went smoothly, Ovi will send a config text to your mobile setting up the sync service and you just select Ovi from the sync menu and it does it all for you over 3G/GPRS. Contacts safely stored online which is especially handy in the event of your phones loss or theft. I haven't managed to utilise the share online facility yet because it keeps telling me that there is no user with my mobile number!!

The files aspect of it is a subscription service at a low monthly cost, nokia claim. They wil give you a 60 day trial if you are a new user but this still requires your credit card information.

That’s the response that the first month or so of Apple’s newly re-badged replacement fo

That's the response that the first month or so of Apple's newly re-badged replacement for .Mac has received from a lot of subscribers. Tales of devices failing to sync, of MobileMe losing data (shudder), of new iPhones not pushing mail to the server or not having mail pushed from the server have inundated Apple's discussion boards. Apple acknowledged the problems by setting up a dedicated helpline (read: internet chat service) for users, giving an free 30-day account extension to all, followed by the leaking of an 'apology' from Steve Jobs, and finally a further 60-day free account extension.

All of which at least reassures that Apple recognises the damage that is being done by the MobileMe foul-ups to its (often well-earned) reputation for providing a sleek, relatively trouble-free user experience. And yet, the problems haven't gone away. I had to make use of the help line after hours of frustrating attempts to get my new iPhone to receive push messages and sync with my Mac's calendars and address book. The problem was eventually sorted by my removing the @mac.com account from my iPhone and replacing it with the @me.com address instead (a step I was loathe to take, as I much prefer the less narcissistic, PR-speak sounding domain). But my iPhone still occasionally refuses to accept push emails, and requires a reboot to sort it out. And, as of last night, my PowerBook has stopped synching altogether: I guess a reboot is due on that machine, too.

Despite these problems, MobileMe still offers a great service (when it works). It's also ridiculously good value for money when compared to some rivals who attempt to do far less, often at greater cost. My principal fear has been that Apple has been stretching its resources to promise something to a much bigger audience than just us hoary old Mac users (like many - well, a few - I used to use the old service as far back as its free iTools roots). Promising the Holy Grail of Push is one thing, but trying to sell a service many of whose best parts - Back To My Mac, iLife app / webspace integration, Backup - are only available to the minority of Mac users and give nothing to Windows / Unix / AmigaDOS users at all - seems to be tempting fate. A fate wherein its Mac-centric services are simply discarded (presaged already by the removal of Groups and Home Page), or where the service is stretched beyond breaking point by trying to tie disparate platforms together across a range of utilities far less slick than the old Mac-dependent ones - although even they admittedly needed much improvement. Farewell then, Back To My Mac. We hardly knew ye.

But it appears my fears were unduly optimistic. Because, according to at least one informed opinion, Apple has bitten off more than it can chew simply by tackling the issue of true multiple-platform sync services at all. According to the author, in what seems a very well-reasoned article, the service basically stands very little chance of success, and he predicts a lamentable outcome:

Personally, if it was me, I would have let .Mac die a quiet death. The problem set for ubiquitous syncing is just very very hard, and the consequences of failure, in terms of user dissatisfaction are too high. I suspect that, in time, MobileMe will go the same way as the Newton.

Ah.

You know, I really, really hope that doesn't happen. I'd rather Cupertino just scaled back their plans, dropped 'push', dropped multi-platform support, and just tried to make the damn thing workable on Macs and iPhones with old fashioned fetch tech. In other words, I'd rather have a working .Mac than nothing at all.

But these days, that's even less likely to happen than iTunes reverting back to being Mac-only. It's simply unthinkable in this cross-platform, Web 2.0, convergence-device world. Apple are playing a high-stakes games with the new service, one where the outcome is starkly black-and-white. You can't have a service like MobileMe that sort of works, with the occasional screw-up costing you your data. It's either everything or nothing.

Place your bets.

Every morning I wake, after charging my phone overnight, to error messages from iTunes. 14 apps had errors and could not be synced. On top of that, the app updates don’t work on the phone or in iTunes. My phone says they will finish downloading when I connect to iTunes, but they error out when I try to sync them. It has been a headache. I want to go bacck to a hacked versio of 1.1.4. However, it would be nice on my 3G…which can’t happen. Anyone else having similar issues?

apple made a big mistake offering to sell ringtones to people using the iphone. I have never paid for a ringtone. why do that when you can make your own ringtones? but it was much easier on my nokia n95 since that could play mp3 ringtones. the iphone format is m4r. the neat thing is that you can turn clips of your favorite mp3s into m4r ringtones for your iphone just by using itunes itself! this is actually an old guide but I do hope it helps that i am reposting it for any iphone newbies who might stumble upon this blog. okay, so all you have to do is:

1. open itunes and choose your favorite mp3 (i haven’t tried this with a song already converted to aac).

2. right-click (Cmd-click for Macs) on the track and select Get Info.

3. select Options.

4. check the boxes Start Time and Stop Time and enter the times you want your new ringtone to start and stop. make sure that you only get 40 seconds of it because that’s how long a ringtone is on the iphone. click Ok.

5. right-click (Cmd-click for Macs) on the same music file again and select Convert Selection to AAC. itunes will convert and insert the new ringtone-sized file under the original file in your library.

6. right-click (Cmd-click for Macs) on the newly created file and select Show in Windows Explorer (or Finder on a Mac).

you should now see the location of the new file you made. rename it, changing the file extension from “.m4a” to “.m4r”. windows will say that the change will make the file unstable, you can ignore that.

connect your iphone and sync your playlist as usual. then manually drag the m4r file into the ringtones section of your iphone. after the sync, the file can be used as a ringtone. mind you, it can only be used as a ringtone, not an sms alert:p hope this helps!

have you ever wondered what the category "Others" is whenever you sync your iphone or ipod on itunes? well, there is a big chance that the chunk of space being used there is taken up by trash that accumulates over time as you use your iphone. there is one way to get rid of this trash and you will need to get the app MobileFinder for your iphone (it's about $2.99). you simply navigate to the Trash folder (click on MobileFinder on the top left of the app, then choose the folder "tmp") and delete whatever is in it. doing this will help you free up some space.

hope this helps!

FoMoCo USA has officially unveiled two new limited edition F-series trucks. They are, respectfully, the Cabela FX4 & (in a first for the F-450 series) the Harley Davidson F-450. More info after the jump - along with some changes to the 2009 Ford F-series line-up...

The Cablea edition emerged after Ford had found that over 75% of F-series buyers fish &/or hunt. If you didn't already know, Cablea is an outdoor recreation retailer - the driving force behind the new limited edition. Mostly a few badges & paint are the differences for the Cablea FX4. Buyers are treated to five different colour schemes; Ebony, Oxford White, Forest Green Metallic, Royal Red Metallic, Silver Metallic - all with Sterling Grey Metallic lower accents along the rocker panels, running boards and wheel arch moldings.

For the twelfth incarnation of the Harley Davidson Edition (though this is the first time this pack has been offered on the F-450), Ford will put blue-flames along the length of the vehicle and on the black leather seats. Also included are large chromed vents just aft of the front wheels. Expect a few Harley Davidson logos all over the truck, though any photos have yet to appear.

ED - A pic has surfaced:

As well as these two new models, the Super Duty trucks now receive an optional spray-in bedliner from the factory, dubbed "Tough Bed", an integrated trailer brake controller, the new Ford Work Solutions suite, Voice-Activated Navigation System with SIRIUS Travel Link and the heavy duty trucks first application of SYNC.

The LG enV(2), also known as the VX9100, is a decent little phone that has a lot more power then Verizon Wireless claims. For some time I went bugging Verizon Wireless stores on how to do something on my phone. Every time I got the same basic reply, "sorry, your phone doesn't do that. You would want this phone (something more expensive)." Obviously these people don't know there own product or they make commision, but that's besides the point.

In this tutorial I will be showing you how to send someone's contact information and calendar event from your enV(2) over to your Mac.

To be on the safe side, I am going to assume that you do not know how to set up your bluetooth device. If you have already done you may find it helpful to jump down a little further.

Setting up your Bluetooth device:
1. Go into your "Settings & Tools" on your phone, then choose option number 3, Bluetooth Menu.
2. Select "Add Device," and turn on Bluetooth.
3. From there it will say "Place device you are con necting to in discoverable mode."
4. Now go to your Mac, in the Menu bar will be the Bluetooth symbol and select "Discoverable."

[caption id="attachment_11" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption=""][/caption]

5. Go back to your phone and select "Ok"
6. Now that your phone has found your co mputer select "Pair" on your phone and enter a random password.
7. On your Mac a pop-up menu will appear asking for a "Pass Key," this is the same pass key you just set up. Click "Pair" on your Mac.

8. On your phone it will ask "Always Connect or Always Ask," select what you wish.
9. On your phone you will now see your computer. Select your computer.
Sending your info via Bluetooth:
10. Now you will have options like Send Name Card, Get Name Card, Exchange Name Card, Send Calendar Event and Send Picture.
11. For example select Send Name Card. This gives you access to your phone's address book.
12. Select who you want or select "Options," which will let you mark all.
13. When you are done select "Done" on your phone.
14. On your Mac a pop-up window will appear, choose Select.

15. Go to your "Documents" and your will see a the name card you sent already in the vCard format. Open it.
Note: Sending a Calendar Event is the same process, and yes, your enV(2) will send it over in the correct iCal format.

Cultured Code released updates to “Things“, the task management application, for both it

Cultured Code released updates to "Things", the task management application, for both its desktop and iPhone versions. I wrote about Cultured Code recently which you can find here. The new versions brings significant updates, in particular, iPhone and iCal syncing. Till this release tasks entered in either system would either have to be duplicated on both platforms or simply exist on one or the other. In my case, I used only the iPhone version. So I am very pleased with this update. What's even more cool is that the syncing works via WiFi, no cables needed! I love that and hope more and more applications implement syncing features like this.

To start syncing go to the File menu, select Preferences and then select either the iPhone or iCal page. I updated my iPhone application first and then the desktop version. I then turned the WiFi setting on for my iPhone. I turn this setting off when I am not at home to conserver battery life. My iMac is on the same WiFi connection which is the only requirement. I then opened the Preferences Dialog and paired the desktop version with the iPhone version. This process is similar to pairing an AppleTV with an iTunes library on your Mac. That's was it. All my tasks, and projects were synced from my iPhone to the desktop.

I look forward to continuing my usage of these new features which I am sure will help me to be more productive. The desktop version is still in BETA and can be downloaded for free. However, when it is released the price will be 49 dollars for the general public and 39 dollars to those who subscribed to the newsletter. Personally, I find the price a bit steep and believe the product would sell better at a 20 dollar price point.

I really like the direction and the speed in which this application is delivering new features. What is still missing for me is a web version and windows version.
