Hello
Personally I'm not sure if skype is ending it's skypecast. However, just to give you a little history. I started voice chatting the very day FireTalk opened for public beta. FireTalk closed in November of 2001, which was very devastating to all. If skype closes it's skypecast I'm sure it will be devastating for everyone.

    I appreciate every one's support, and for those who would like to remain in contact with us. You know you can reach us on TeamSpeak just about any time. Digital Addiction and it's community members have always relied on alternative sources which we KNOW will always be there in the event which something like this takes place.

Please contact me from the contact page of Digital Addiction I'll be happy to help you configure your client to connect with the rest of us. The majority of skype friends will more than likely meet nightly with the rest of the community.

There's been an interesting thread on the Asterisk Users Mail List where someone has been seeking a reliable Wifi SIP handset. Lots of user experience with Wifi and DECT devices has been forthcoming.

One reader indicates that they think the process of changing the active VOIP account on a snom m3 is troublesome. Here's a short video I did some time ago documenting the keystroke sequence using my snom m3.

[wpvideo YqKdCnhN]

The phone supports up to 8 separate registations. This means that it can take incomming calls from eight separate sources. However, when making outgoing calls it only uses one of the accounts. You can set which one that is by default for each handset.

In my experience this is not a problem, as I make all outgoing calls through one account anyway. But by allowing multiple registrations I can take calls from auxillary services like Free World Dialup, IPKALL, IdeaSIP, etc.

The IEEE has completed 802.11r, a standard that lets Wi-Fi devices roam quickly between access points, improving the performance of VoIP on enterprise LANs.

The IEEE 802.11 standards were originally defined with single access points in mind. But when devices move from one access point to another, it takes around 100ms to re-associate, and several seconds to re-establish authenticated connections using 802.1x. That will drop a voice call.

The new standard, IEEE 802.11r, is also known as Fast Basic Service Set Transition. It allows the network to establish a security and QoS state for the device at the new access point, before it roams between the two, so the transition can take place in less than 50ms - the standard required for voice roaming.

The IEEE has been working on 802.11r for four years, and the concept has been solid since 2005, but the standard was formally approved and published by the IEEE this summer. The 802.11r standard will govern the way roaming mobile clients communicate with access points, establish security associations and reserve QoS resources. Under 802.11r, clients can use the current access point as a conduit to other access points, allowing clients to minimize disruptions caused by changing channels.

Hey guys it looks like the wait will finally pay off! Patience really is a virtue.

Anybody who has been waiting for news on the mobile deals you need to listen to this call. http://recordings.talkshoe.com/TC-21600/TS-142492.mp3

This reminds of why I got involved. A few month ago a friend of mine emailed me about a mobile phone plan that sounded pretty damn good, unlimited calls to anyone, anytime and for as long as I liked. (If you listen to the above call you will understand what I am talking about) I was interested because I was paying $80+ Aus. for 550 mins per month with a large and welknown reputable company. So this obviously got me interested. What also had me interested was that I could receive commissions for simply telling a few people about this as well. I wasn’t interested because my life long ambition was to become a mobile phone salesman, I was interested because the current mobile plan I was on, I was on because a mate told me about it and it was better than the plan I was previously on, so I signed up. In the two years I have been on this plan another 5 people I have told have also signed onto that plan with this large welknown reputable company. Well so what? you ask

Imagine for a moment that you didn’t have to worry about paying for your bills out of your pay because you had enough passive income coming in every month to take care of them. Well this will be entirely possible when Globalverge is launched with simply the mobile phone deals alone!.

So if you resonate with the Global Verge philosophy ..

Are in tune will the significance of their innovative HUB Marketing approach ..

Applaud the new ECO direction and also appreciate all the other products and services ..

Understand that the Compensation Plan will pay out the HIGHEST commissions in the Industry ..

And wish to have a REAL business, that has now satisfied ALL legal requirements in order to stay ALIVE for the next 20 to 30 years ..

Then there couldn’t be a better time than right now for you to start telling everyone you know about Global Verge.

The VoIP Call termination service follows a certain route that allows voice to be terminated from one end to another. This route makes it possible for people to send voice files in packet forms. The users can avail the services at a very affordable call cost. It sends files in packet forms and so file transfer becomes very simple using this technology. The process is fast and the users can send files of any type using this technology.

The user-friendliness of the system allows people to access the call termination service from any place of the world. This is simply because internet is brought to use for establishing VoIP call termination service. This telephony service is unique in comparison to the traditional forms of connectivity. It makes use of digital technology and so data and files can be transferred easily without any hassles. So, a VoIP call can be terminated with ease at any place of the world.

People can talk for long hours with this call termination service. They can chat for hours and also share files with other users. The conference calling service enables people to involve a number of VoIP users while conversing using this calling service. The VoIP calls, thus, make it possible to involve lot of people and to conference with each other from different parts of the world.

It is also true that a number of service providers have emerged in the form of wholesalers and retailers. There are providers who belong to a higher category and are termed as tier 1. Then there are also other forms of providers that lease services from the higher tiers and they belong to Tier 2 or Tier 3 categories. Thus the users are left with a number of options for achieving VoIP termination service. Moreover, the users can access the services from remote places of the world as the service providers have reached every region of the world.

The service can now be accessed on mobile phones too. This is what makes it possible for people to access telephony services even while they are on a move. It is also true that laptops can be used for the same purpose. The reason why this technology is superior to traditional telephony is that the technology brings other facilities of file transfer, conference and data transfer in addition to voice calls. These facilities are made available to people simultaneously using VoIP whereas the traditional telephone users are devoid of it. So, availing VoIP termination service is more beneficial to the users.

The VoIP Solution allows the transferring of voice using data packets over a network. Enterprises and people are adopting this new technology to make low cost telephony possible for international callers. In fact, a huge deal of migration is seen from proprietary PBX systems to IP based telephony systems. The PSTN most often provide a gateway to VoIP calls. So, all it takes for service providers is to terminate calls from VoIP to PSTN or from PSTN to VoIP. This is the reason why it is possible for service providers to send VoIP calls to analogue phones, mobile phones or cordless phones.

VoIP solution is completely dependent on the Internet connection. A high speed internet ensures efficient functioning of a system with proper accessing of the latest services offered by the service providers. The services can be in forms such as voice messages, e-mails, faxes, find me - follow me, conference calling, music on hold and more such amazing features. So with many options in hand it is very obvious that any sort of business can flourish using the Voice Over IP technology. The business VoIP solution has actually made call centres and other business houses adopt this latest technology.

There are several benefits that draw people to Voice Over IP. The system has fixed monthly fee and the charges do not vary, how much one may be using the services. The ownership charges is also kept low. Then the system is very easily installed, enabling the roll out of services instantly. The VoIP solution providers too have an integrated system whereby they offer a single management platform. It increases the efficiency of the system.

The users of VoIP are also benefited with several plans. It may be in the form of free calling minutes in a month, free sending of text messages, free international calling, video conference calls, business VoIP and residential VoIP services. So, the users find the services offered by VoIP solution providers to be very fruitful for running an organisation or even for personal usage.

The easy availability of internet at any place of the world has led to the accessing of business VoIP solution at any place of the world. It has even reached remote areas and so dreams of converting such places to major business hubs is now made possible by VoIP.

"Good news, everyone" [Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth, Futurama]

This is an interim release, intended to mark the end of features development in the trunk. From now on, it will be tests and bug fixes only, until we reach 1.0. This will be our first proper stable release, and it will be given a separate branch, to isolate it from bleeding edge developments in the trunk.

Because of that, there has been a bit of "pressure" to stuff in as much features as possible on this release, since this is the last change to include them in 1.0. Here are some of them:

Integration of Intel® IPP Codecs. This brings us with bunch of new codecs into PJMEDIA, such as G.722.1, G.723.1, G.726, G.728, G.729A, AMR NB, and AMR WB. Basically the lot! For more info about this integration, please see here.

New Python API. We discussed this on this blog a month ago here, basically it's a new Python API for PJSUA-LIB, it's much easier to use, and it also has a more thorough documentation/tutorial. Please check that out.

Nokia APS Support. The Nokia Audio Proxy Server is a wrapper to Nokia S60 sound device, it has much lower latency than Symbian MMF API (the traditional sound device that we support), and it also opens up support for device's native codecs such as AMR, G.729, and iLBC which we can use in the future. Although this API has been deprecated by Nokia in FP2, still there are lots of S60 and FP1 devices out there, so this is worth supporting.

New Echo Suppressor. Good for mobile devices, we discussed this in this blog here.

And some more. For more information regarding this release, please visit the download page.

Enjoy.

resp = unicode(result.content, 'utf-8')
resp = resp.encode("cp1251")

Ну и наоборот:

resp = unicode(result.content, 'cp1251')

# coding=UTF-8
# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-

import wsgiref.handlers
from google.appengine.ext import webapp
from google.appengine.api import urlfetch
import os
from google.appengine.ext.webapp import template
from xml.dom import minidom

WEATHER_URL = 'http://informer.gismeteo.ru/rss/%s.xml'

        city = '27612'

    if ccode != None:
        return ccode.group(1)
    else:
        return city

By Traci Patterson
CedMagazine

In the past year, cable telephony subscribers have increased by nearly eight million worldwide, according to a new report from In-Stat.

Growth in North America has been particularly strong as cable operators near the end of their transition to VoIP-enabled network architectures, In-Stat’s report found.

“Current priorities for cable telephony service providers are expanding the availability of their service and attracting business end-users, especially small- and medium-size businesses,” said Mike Paxton, an In-Stat analyst.

In-Stat’s research, “34 Million Subscribers: Worldwide Cable Telephony Services Continue to Expand,” found that:

Worldwide cable telephony service revenues are on track to reach $12.6 billion in 2008, up from $10.7 billion in 2007.

Total worldwide cable telephony subscribers are projected to reach 37 million by the end of 2008, and to pass 64 million by 2012.

In the U.S., questions remain about whether or not the cable service bundle needs to have a wireless voice component; while wireless service is an integral part of the service bundle in countries like Canada and the U.K., the collapse of the Pivot joint venture (JV) in the U.S. has put wireless service on the back burner for most U.S. cable operators.

As mentioned above, the Pivot JV involved cable operators Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Advance/Newhouse (Bright House Networks), which were working with Sprint Nextel to offer the Pivot wireless service. In April, it was announced that the cable operators were done with Pivot (story here).

In-Stat’s research covers the worldwide market for cable telephony. It discusses the business case for cable telephony services, discusses the availability of the service and examines specific network architectures, In-Stat said. In addition, it updates leading cable TV operator telephony deployment strategies and presents the results of a U.S. cable telephony subscriber consumer survey.

The research also provides forecasts for worldwide cable telephony subscribers, VoIP cable telephony subscribers and installed cable telephony lines through 2012, and it forecasts cable telephony service revenues and “Voice-over-Broadband” cable telephony subscribers over the next five years.

Though it should not be forgotten that a high speed internet connection would play a very important role in this aspect.

VoIP call is made possible by a particular software, sound card and a microphone. This technology uses a phone that is more or like the conventional phones. However, this system has an Ethernet connection for transmitting the calls through the so called computer. Most importantly, there are certain limitations too. Basically to enjoy this technology to the fullest the person whom you are calling must also possess or download the same VoIP software that you are also using. However, these limitations are even wiped off in certain cases.

However, various additional features would make your communication process very simple and hassle free. With this technology you can even send pictures and data too to the concerned person with whom you are communicating.

Actually, the Internet was a buzzword that initially confused the people regarding its capailities. Moreover, people used to think how can a technology offer such varied features such as chatting, voice chatting, exchanging pictures and messages etc. However, the cost-effective feature backed it more significantly. However, time ripened the opportunities and impelled man to explore more and more. Earlier, all these factors were not thought of, as screaming and beating drums used to be the ultimate medium of communication. As such, it has been witnessed that time has proved to be more patient than the human brain. It has basically witnessed the varied developments in various ages. From telephone to mobile phones and from Internet to VoIP phone service, every technology has created a milestone in the vast history of communication.

The VoIP technology is rapidly changing the entire facet of communication. Actually, this technology is stealing the show as it comes associated with various beneficial features. With the support of this technology, one can send text, voice and data too without any hassles. Moreover, all these features can be accessed at very cheap rates. With this system, you can make international and distant calls at very unbelievable prices. Now, in this cut throat competition the cable companies are the latest ones who have ventured into this arena. As such, the market of the VoIP phone service is developing and getting popular very rapidly. As a matter of fact, it can be said they are setting new trends in the market. It has been witnessed that this technology that is IP based is significantly replacing the circuit-based TDM networks. More and more business and corporate houses are switching over to this process due to various benefits.

Internet phone service is developing with very passing date. Actually, innovative and developed protocol gateways are being incorporated to ensure excellent quality of calls. Moreover, quite interestingly, installing this technology is also a very hassle-free task. Cost-effective feature and hassle-free installation process are actually backing this technology to become more and more popular among the masses.

Why the VoIP phone services are becoming more and more popular? This question can be supported by various positive reasons. Firstly, these services come with excellent voice quality. Secondly, these efficient services can be easily merged with the current infrastructure. As such, switching over to this process can be done without any concern. The cost that is associated with this process are also very reasonable. Moreover, as compared to the conventional PSTN services, they are significantly more beneficial.

The users can rely upon this VoIP service blindly. Moreover, the high-end voice quality would ensure that you have an enthralling time during communicating. You can also remain in touch with the providers of internet VoIP phone services to ensure that your problems are tackled at the right time. This process basically works on the process of digitalising the voice. Actually the voice that is routed over the Internet is digitalised. Moreover, the end users in the other end would receive the digitalised voice in normal form. However, in this process, high speed Internet connection plays a crucial role. Quite interestingly, the extra features that come associated with these service are very attractive and luring.

These VoIP services come along with various other added features such as 3-way calling facility, call forwarding, Voice mail and call waiting etc. The increasing popularity of these services over the IP telephony services is quite obvious and logical. People always incorporate into their lives the gadgets and technology that are quite beneficial and enhance their lifestyle. As a matter of fact, these high-end services would further unfurl various innovations too in the near future for ensuring more benefits to the users.

It's always been a challenge to find a way to use VOIP efficiently. Microphones and headsets can only go so far. Actually, Its principal designer is Phil Zimmermann, the creator of PGP, the most widely used email encryption software in the world. Zfone uses a new protocol called ZRTP, which has a better architecture than the other approaches to secure VoIP.

There is nothing bad in an Internet world than to fear new technologies. In fact, fearing new technologies in general is a bad idea itself.

Pakistan - like the rest of the developing countries - stands strong as a potential beneficiary from the worldwide ICT related businesses provided a liberal Internet policy is adopted at all levels.

When PTCL was a monopoly in telecommunications in Pakistan and in came the cellular operators, positive things happened for the consumers - services improved, rates declined and availability got almost ubiquitous. Of course, the financial success that the cellcos met in Pakistan is an over-stated fact.

The left-behinds in all the high-water mark events mentioned above were the LDI operators who, while started off with great zeal and put in a lot of money too, found the telecoms environment too diluted and with much of undercutting going on. The rates (for termination inside Pakistan) went as low as 1 cent per min for wholesale carriers. A number of LDI operators burnt out in these conditions never to be seen again.

Later, around the beginning of this year (2008), sanity finally prevailed and the LDI operators and the authority decided that it was time to end the next to free rates to Pakistan termination traffic and raised the nominal tariff to 10 cents per minute. This move, which was essentially about LDIs putting their own house in order, alone injected a new life in their business. Salaries for the staff started coming in time and new equipment started being ordered by the operators.

Despite some undercutting, the rates in the international market for wholesale termination inside Pakistan are still above the 7 cents per minute mark and this leaves a considerable room for the operators to keep and take their business forward. According to rough industry estimates, only the recorded business is worth in access of 700 million minutes (or $35 million @ 5c/min) per month (grey traffic not included).

The LDI operators, in an effort to pump more out of this new found oil well, requested en mass the PTA to go after the grey traffic operators and invested in equipment that claims to detect and mitigate voip traffic in real time. This equipment has been on the international exit points in Pakistan. Suspected IP traffic was detected and investigated to see if it grey, or belongs to an un-intimated call center. This stuff was reportedly being done manually so far.

So far, the business-saving and law-enforcing arrangements by the LDIs and PTA appear to be logical and permissible. No one likes grey operators - the steal legal traffic from licensed players, do not pay taxes and do not help when LEA wants their help in tracing crimes and these guys are generally of, well, grey character themselves.

But when you see this item in today's The News, it starts getting really uncomfortable:

PTA to start automated blocking of IPs
By By our correspondent
8/27/2008
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will start automated blocking of Internet Protocol Addresses (IPs), involved in illegal termination/origination of international traffic, in a bid to check grey traffic flowing into the country. The facility will be operational within the next few days.

This was announced by PTA Chairman Dr Muhammad Yaseen in a meeting with the CEOs of major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) of the country held at the PTA headquarters on Tuesday.

He requested all the ISPs to declare their IP addresses along-with the antecedents of their customers so that illegal telecom traffic could be monitored. It was emphasised that the operators should oversee their customers to make sure they are not involved in grey traffic termination. He sought the operators’ cooperation to stem the menace of grey telephony.

The ISPs appreciated the recent steps taken by the PTA including an announcement in the press wherein call centres were asked to provide their IP addresses to the PSEB to ensure uninterrupted services.

Since the inception of technical facility in May 2008 at the PTA, the IP addresses found to be involved in illegal activities were being blocked manually and in the process, over 14 million minutes (worth around Rs100 million) have been saved on monthly basis. Now these would be automatically blocked if any IP, not authorised to carry voice, is found doing so. Under the current policy, only LDIs and international call centres are authorised to carry voice across national boundaries.

The problems with the above arrangements are many:

There 'real-time' nature of the voip blocking apparently takes away the manual process and the sanity that can possibly accompany these efforts

The regulator will now essentially be 'peeking' inside the contents of the traffic. True, they are looking for voice packets but one is justified to think, 'what's next'?

PC-to-PC voip traffic - which unfortunately has been neatly wrapped in clouds of uncertainty by the regulator despite the industry literally begging for clearer guidelines on this topic - might get disrupted. The optimistic take here is that the Naurus gear would be intelligent enough to have thresholds that can distinguish between an occasional PC-to-PC voip caller and a bulk grey operator.

For the network applications administrators, troubleshooting will now get more complex as the high-end IP transit operators are no more acting transparently and the traiff is getting actively peeked inside and the Naurus system would be fiddling with it if it passes the defined litmus tests of being grey voice.

The LDI operators are best advised to invest more into the reliability and reach of their network instead of lobbying the regulator to take effects that could be counter ICT development. The industry is clearly against illegal activities but at the same time, a liberal Internet regime is one of the prime enabler of a saner IT featuring future of Pakistan.

All are requested to keep an eye on their network performances with the possibility of network issues cropping up due to this imminent implementation of automatic voip traffic suppression.

And let us hope the equipment vendor is not making us a guinea pigs for their new software releases!

Business VoIP providers especially make sure that they offer their services to organisations so that

Business VoIP providers especially make sure that they offer their services to organisations so that they can become successful in their business ventures. VoIP utilises internet connection to receive and send calls. There are several business VoIP providers whose services are the same as that of residential providers except the fact that these VoIP providers makes use of a PBX and includes advanced features such as automated attendant, desk calling, managing extensions, find me - follow me, music on hold, conference calling and more such amazing features.

Business can very well flourish with VoIP service provider. There are several reasons for it. The first and foremost is lower Telecom call cost. The VoIP providers charge significantly less about 50 % lower for availing the connectivity. The productivity too increases significantly. Some organisations have reported productivity increase of three hours per week per employee. Features like remote office, Outlook integration, find me/follow me, unified voice mail, collaboration tools and conference calling help to increase the overall productivity of the entire organisation. Then the technology is also mobile. It means that the users can move their phone to a new work station. It is termed as MAC (moves, adds and changes). The business VoIP providers also have trained individuals in their own IT department who maintain the services that they provide to their customers. So, it reduces the maintenance cost.

The UK VoIP providers are very reliable and provide a very efficient solution. Their call processing system also eliminates any chances of failure. This reliability is due to the system's inherent capability of offering redundancy in infrastructure. Any hardware failure does not hamper the functioning of the network. The network is kept well secured from hackers. In fact, the VoIP providers are moving up to a new standard termed as the 'H.323 standard'. These help to maintain the overall infrastructure of the network providers.

The business VoIP provider ensure that their services are feature rich and that they keep on adding new VoIP features. Some of the latest services are conference calling and Video conferencing. There is also the converged application whereby users can send and receive voice messages, e-mails and faxes with their regular email account. With the sophisticated VoIP, users can handle any special situations. That is if an additional application is needed, then the users can write a special program on their own. This is the reason why it is so well used in call centre reporting and applications. Then there are also other advantages. VoIP can be used to collage different network systems whereby the various branches of an organisation can be linked. It offers incredible flexibility as Voice Over IP system is more adaptable and inexpensive in comparison with the traditional telephony services.

VoIP service providers thus ensure the growth of an organisation. It also offers the option for users to avail only those services that is required. The users can also keep on availing advanced features of VoIP from the service provider. So, companies can grow under its umbrella.

Information relating to the latest offers of service providers is updated on the company websites. So, users can go through the websites to get the latest updates that are kept on offer. The providers of VoIP keep on introducing new services such as faxing, Enhanced -911, remote office features, PC calling and more such latest services. The customers can avail these services simply by forwarding an application for the same.
